This draft amendment A1, if approved, will modify the European Standard EN 1332-1:1999. If this draft becomes an amendment, CEN
members are bound to comply with the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations which stipulate the conditions for inclusion of this amendment
into the relevant national standard without any alteration.
This draft amendment was established by CEN in three official versions (English, French, German). A version in any other language made
by translation under the responsibility of a CEN member into its own language and notified to the Management Centre has the same status
as the official versions.

Foreword
This document (EN 1332-1:1999/prA1:2004) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 224
“Identification card systems”, the secretariat of which is held by AFNOR.
This document is currently submitted to the CEN Enquiry.
It concerns a new informative Annex to identify any additional functions to be represented by icons, symbols
and pictograms. Update list of functions to be represented.
Clause 6 : Functions to be represented by symbols has been changed as follow ; Symbols in the form of icons
on screens and/or pictograms on the card or terminal should provide for the functions shown in Table 1.
Symbols should have a concise accompanying text message. Symbols for 13 functions and accompanying
text messages are provided in Annex A.
Symbols should conform with international standards and related documents where relevant ISO/TC 145
keeps a register of approved symbols.
Annex A (informative) "Symbols in the form of icons on screens and/or pictograms" has been added.
Existing Bibliography has been moved after the Annex A.
