L'objectif de la présente Norme internationale est - de donner le vocabulaire et les symboles relatifs aux grandeurs utilisées dans les Normes internationales concernant l'ergonomie des ambiances thermiques, et - de fournir une référence du vocabulaire et des symboles à utiliser lors de l'élaboration de futures Normes internationales ou d'autres publications traitant de l'ergonomie des ambiances thermiques. NOTE La présente Norme internationale va permettre d'introduire avec justesse le vocabulaire et les symboles dans les nouvelles Normes internationales ou lors de la révision des normes existantes (voir la bibliographie), en tant que de besoin.

Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies (ISO
member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO technical
committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been established has
the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in
liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical
Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization.
International Standards are drafted in accordance with the rules given in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 3.
The main task of technical committees is to prepare International Standards. Draft International Standards adopted
by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies for voting. Publication as an International
Standard requires approval by at least 75 % of the member bodies casting a vote.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this International Standard may be the subject of
patent rights. ISO shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.
ISO 13731 was prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 159, Ergonomics, Subcommittee SC 5, Ergonomics of
the physical environment.

L'ISO (Organisation internationale de normalisation) est une fédération mondiale d'organismes nationaux de
normalisation (comités membres de l'ISO). L'élaboration des Normes internationales est en général confiée aux
comités techniques de l'ISO. Chaque comité membre intéressé par une étude a le droit de faire partie du comité
technique créé à cet effet. Les organisations internationales, gouvernementales et non gouvernementales, en
liaison avec l'ISO participent également aux travaux. L'ISO collabore étroitement avec la Commission
électrotechnique internationale (CEI) en ce qui concerne la normalisation électrotechnique.
Les Normes internationales sont rédigées conformément aux règles données dans les Directives ISO/CEI, Partie 3.
La tâche principale des comités techniques est d'élaborer les Normes internationales. Les projets de Normes

Introduction
This International Standard forms part of a series intended for use in the assessment of the influence of thermal
environments on humans.
It is a compilation of terms, definitions, symbols and units of quantities used in the standards published by ISO in
the field of erganomics of the thermal environment. The terms for which a definition existed in the original standard
are given in clause 2, together with their definition. When a definition of a term is generally understood at the level
required for standards for the thermal environment, it has not been given in this International standard
Clause 3 provides the symbols and units associated with the terms. It lists the symbols and units, irrespective of
whether a definition existed for the term in the original standard or not.
The index included the terms defined in clause 2 and also those for which a symbol is given in clause 3, both in the
natural and inverted word orders.

La présente Norme internationale fait partie d'une série destinée à être utilisée pour l'évaluation de l'influence des
ambiances thermiques sur l'être humain.
Elle est une compilation de termes, définitions, symboles et unités de grandeurs utilisés dans les normes publiées
par l'ISO dans le domaine de l'ergonomie des ambiances thermiques. Les termes pour lesquels il existait une
définition dans la norme d’origine sont donnés à l’article 2, avec leur définition. Quand la définition d’un terme va de
soi dans les normes relatives aux ambiances thermiques, elle n’est pas donnée dans la présente Norme
internationale.
L’article 3 comprend les symboles et unités associés aux termes. Il donne une liste des symboles et unités,
indépendamment du fait qu’il existe ou non une définition de ce terme dans la norme d’origine.
L’index comprend, dans l’ordre alphabétique, les termes définis à l’article 2, mais aussi ceux pour lesquels un
symbole est donné à l’article 3, chaque terme de l’index étant suivi de sa référence précise dans l’article 2 ou 3.
