Overview
EN IEC 61800-9-2:2025/prA1:2025 is an amendment to Part 9-2 of the IEC/EN 61800 series addressing ecodesign for motor systems within Adjustable Speed Electrical Power Drive Systems (PDS). This Committee Draft for Vote (CDV) proposes technical corrections to calculations for correction factors, replacing several formulas and the correction-factor table to improve consistency in energy-efficiency determination and IE class assignment.
Key administrative notes from the draft: the amendment is prepared under IEC SC 22G, submitted for CENELEC parallel voting, and carries a proposed stability date of 2027. The CDV stage indicates the document is still under study and subject to change.
Key Topics
- Formula updates: The draft replaces formulas referenced as (15) through (18) with corrected expressions for modified reference losses used in IE classification and loss comparison.
- Correction-factor table: Table 8 is replaced by a new Table 1 that lists correction factors (cf,i) for different converter and drive characteristics for CDM, SDIM and SDOM topologies.
- Characteristics covered:
- THD categories (high, reference, low) for input currents up to harmonic order H = 40
- Regenerative capability (motoring-mode losses considered when applicable)
- Drive-filter (DF) thresholds (DF ≤ 10 % examples such as sinewave output filters)
- Input-voltage classes (single-phase and three-phase rated voltage thresholds at ≤ 250 V)
- External cooling (impact on correction factors when cooling power is supplied separately)
- Application rules: Applicable correction factors are those reflecting the characteristics of the Equipment Under Test (EUT); these are used to modify reference losses before comparing converter losses for IE class determination.
Applications
This amendment is directly relevant to:
- Manufacturers of CDM (converter-driven modules), SDIM (single-drive inverter modules) and SDOM (single-drive output modules) for validating declared efficiencies and IE classes.
- Test laboratories performing loss measurement and energy-efficiency classification under IEC/EN 61800-9-2.
- Energy auditors and compliance teams applying ecodesign requirements to motor systems and PDS installations.
Practical benefits include more consistent IE-class outcomes, clearer guidance on when to apply specific correction factors, and improved comparability of loss assessments across product topologies.

FOREWORD
1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising
all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promote international
co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To this end and
in addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications, Technical Reports,
Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) and Guides (hereafter referred to as “IEC Publication(s)”). Their
preparation is entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interested in the subject dealt with
may participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-governmental organizations liaising
with the IEC also participate in this preparation. IEC collaborates closely with the International Organization for
Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined by agreement between the two organizations.
2) The formal decisions or agreements of IEC on technical matters express, as nearly as possible, an international
consensus of opinion on the relevant subjects since each technical committee has representation from all
interested IEC National Committees.
3) IEC Publications have the form of recommendations for international use and are accepted by IEC National
Committees in that sense. While all reasonable efforts are made to ensure that
