This European Standard specifies the terms, definitions, rating conditions and requirements of variable capacity air conditioners and heat pumps with electrically driven compressors.

Diese Technische Spezifikation gilt für die Prüfung von Luftkonditionierern, Wärmepumpen und Flüssigkeitskühlsätzen unter Teillastbedingungen.
Sie legt die Begriffe, Definitionen, Prüfverfahren, Prüfberichte sowie das Berechnungsverfahren für die
zyklische und verdichterreduzierte Leistung fest. Temperatur- und systemreduzierte Leistungen sind nicht einbezogen.
Diese Technische Spezifikation gilt für fabrikmäßig zusammengebaute Geräte nach EN 14511-1, mit Ausnahme von Wärmepumpen für Heißwassergeräte für Brauchwasser.

La présente Spécification Technique couvre les essais des climatiseurs, pompes a chaleur et groupes refroidisseurs de liquide dans des conditions de charge partielle.
Elle spécifie les termes et définitions, les méthodes d'essai, le rapport d'essai, et la méthode de calcul lorsque la réduction de puissance est due au fonctionnement cyclique de l'appareil ou a une réduction de puissance du(des) compresseur(s). Les réductions de puissance liées a la température et au systeme sont exclues.
Cette Spécification Technique européenne s'applique aux appareils fabriqués en usine définis dans l'EN 14511-1.

This Technical Specification (CEN/TS) was approved by CEN on 24 September 2003 for provisional application.
The period of validity of this CEN/TS is limited initially to three years. After two years the members of CEN will be requested to submit their
comments, particularly on the question whether the CEN/TS can be converted into a European Standard.
CEN members are required to announce the existence of this CEN/TS in the same way as for an EN and to make the CEN/TS available. It
is permissible to keep conflicting national standards in force (in parallel to the CEN/TS) until the final decision about the possible

Foreword
This document (CEN/TS 14825:2003) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 113 “Heat pumps and
conditioning units”, the secretariat of which is held by AENOR.
This Technical Specification was first intended to be published as EN standard, but due to the little experience in
this type of testing, the Technical Committee decided to issue it as a TS.
This Technical Specification is published to give the general conditions and requirements for testing. When further
experience will be reached in test methods, the change to EN will be considered.
Annex A is informative.

Introduction
Heat pumps, air conditioners and liquid chilling packages are, at present, selected and compared at a rated
condition. This condition does not represent the usual operating conditions of the equipment over a season. This
operating condition can be better assessed by comparing equipment at a representative 50% reduced capacity.
Fixed capacity air conditioners, liquid chilling packages and heat pumps deal with varying loads by varying the
operation time. The efficiency of the system is dependent on the effectiveness of the controlling thermostats.
Variable capacity air conditioners, liquid chilling packages and heat pumps, by continuous or step control of the
compressor, can more closely match the varying load improving system efficiency.
This standard gives the rating conditions and methods for testing air conditioners, heat pumps and liquid chilling
packages operating to overcome part load.
The rating conditions and test methods of units operating to overcome full load are given in EN 14511-2 and EN
14511-3.
1 Scope
This Technical Specification covers testing of air conditioners, heat pumps and liquid chilling packages for part load
conditions.
It specifies the terms, the definitions, the methods for testing and reporting, and the calculation method for the
cyclic and compressor reduced capacity. The temperature and system reduced capacities are excluded.
This European Standard applies to factory made units defined in EN 14511-1.
