kSIST FprEN 1090-5:2026 is a SIST standard aligned with the draft European standard prEN 1090-5 prepared by CEN. It specifies execution requirements for cold-formed structural aluminium profiled sheeting and related roof, ceiling, floor, wall and cladding applications, including manufacture, installation, documentation, inspection and deconstruction. It is written for manufacturers, installers, designers and project teams working to the EN 1999 series.
What does kSIST FprEN 1090-5:2026 specify?
kSIST FprEN 1090-5:2026 sets technical requirements for the execution of cold-formed structural aluminium elements and structures used in roof, ceiling, floor, wall and cladding applications. It applies to structures designed according to the EN 1999 series, and to profiled sheeting designed according to EN 1999-1-4.
The document covers manufacture, installation and documentation for profiled sheeting and related structural members under predominantly static loading or seismic loading conditions. It also covers spacer constructions, supporting members, connections and attachments when they take part in load transfer, plus deconstruction of these structures.
It applies to Structural Class I and II products and to structural profiled sheeting in Structural Class III according to EN 1999-1-4. It excludes welded sections, which are handled by EN 1090-3 except for seal welding in low-stress areas, and it excludes composite structural profiled sheeting where dissimilar materials are part of the structural behaviour, such as sandwich panels and composite floors.
The document is organized into clauses for specifications and documentation, products, manufacturing, welding, mechanical fastening, installation, surface protection, geometrical tolerances, inspection and correction, and deconstruction. It also includes Annexes A to F.
| Annex | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Annex A | Basic requirements for profiled sheeting |
| Annex B | Additional design requirements for profiled sheeting |
| Annex C | Installation records |
| Annex D | Geometrical tolerances |
| Annex E | Galvanic corrosion |
| Annex F | Additional information |
What are the key requirements of kSIST FprEN 1090-5:2026?
Clause 4 requires an execution specification, installation quality documentation, installation documentation, detailed traceability and safety instructions. In practice, this means the manufacturer and installer need agreed work instructions, records of progress and incidents, and a completion statement signed by the company responsible for installation.
Clause 5 sets the product side of the work: materials shall follow the listed material requirements, or their properties shall be specified if they are outside those standards. For aluminium products covered by Clause 5.3, the inspection document shall be 3.1 according to EN 10204, so buyers and installers can check what was supplied and trace it back to batches and packages.
Clause 5 also requires identification, packaging and labelling so the contents are readily identifiable. Thickness tolerance class, minimum nominal sheet thickness, geometrical tolerances and mechanical fastener type all need to be specified where relevant. That matters because the project documents must match the actual product and the intended fixing method.
Clause 6 requires structural profiled sheeting to be manufactured by cold forming from aluminium sheet or strip/coil, with no visible cracks at bent areas. Cutting, holing and punching must preserve geometrical tolerances and edge quality, and coated materials should be cut in a way that limits coating damage.
Clause 7 allows welding at the construction site for joints, overlaps, attachments and penetrations when the welding method suits the material. The welds are treated as sealing welds in low-stress areas, and the weld seam tightness is checked by visual inspection. Practically, this keeps field welding limited to the locations and functions that the standard accepts.
Clause 8 governs mechanical fastening with screws and blind rivets. Fasteners have to match the installation specification and the fastener manufacturer’s instructions, and the installer must control hole size, torque or depth, washer compression and fastener length. The clause also gives spacing rules for side laps, edge and field fastenings, and it requires drilling swarf and broken mandrel stems to be removed after installation to limit corrosion risk.
Clause 9 focuses on site work. The installer needs suitable personnel, layout drawings, proper tools, safe storage, fall protection, weather checks, inspection of packaging and contents, and immediate securing of sheets after laying. It also requires inspection of preceding works, inspection after installation, marking and warning for diaphragms, and written confirmation for lightning protection interfaces.
Clause 10 addresses surface protection and corrosion. Aluminium profiled sheets normally rely on their natural oxide layer, but extra protection is required where the environment creates higher corrosion stress. The clause also points to precautions against galvanic corrosion and to manufacturer instructions for cleaning and maintenance.
Clause 11 and Annex D define essential and functional geometrical tolerances. These tolerances control dimensions, straightness, hole geometry and other deviations, and they are part of final acceptance. In practice, the standard separates what affects structural resistance and stability from what affects fit-up and appearance.
Clause 12 requires inspection, testing and correction according to a predetermined plan, including handling of non-conforming products and inspection of fastening. Clause 13 adds deconstruction requirements, with the same safety focus used for installation.
What terms does kSIST FprEN 1090-5:2026 define?
- cassette profile - roll formed, press-braked or folded structural profiled sheeting used as a substructure for walls and roofs.
- component I - the component facing the head of the fastener, usually the profiled sheeting.
- component II - the second component in the connection, usually the supporting member.
- structural aluminium component - a load-bearing element made from aluminium sheet by cold rolling or press braking.
- structural cold-formed profiled sheeting - a structural part such as trapezoidal, sinusoidal, standing seam or cassette profile.
- essential tolerance - a geometrical limit needed to meet design assumptions for resistance and stability.
- functional tolerance - a geometrical tolerance needed for fit-up, appearance or another function beyond resistance and stability.
- manufacturing tolerance - the permitted dimensional range resulting from manufacture.
Who uses kSIST FprEN 1090-5:2026?
This standard is used by manufacturers of cold-formed aluminium profiled sheeting, installers of roof and wall systems, and companies responsible for site assembly. It also matters to structural engineers, design offices, quality managers and inspectors who need to define tolerances, traceability, fastening, documentation and acceptance rules.
It is relevant in building work for roofs, ceilings, floors, walls and cladding, especially where aluminium profiled sheeting is part of the load-bearing system. It is also used when steel and aluminium profiled sheeting are combined in one system and both EN 1090-4 and this document apply.

1 Scope
This document specifies requirements for the execution i.e. the manufacture and the installation of cold-
formed structural aluminium profiled sheeting, and for the installation of structural members made of
aluminium for roof, ceiling, floor, wall and cladding applications.
This document applies to structures designed according to the EN 1999 series.
This document applies to profiled sheeting to be designed according to EN 1999-1-4.
This document also specifies requirements for the execution i.e. the manufacture and the installation of
structures made from cold-formed profiled sheeting for roof, ceiling, floor and wall applications under
predominately static loading or seismic loading conditions and their documentation.
This document covers products of Structural Class I and II and structural profiled sheeting in Structural
Class III according to EN 1999-1-4 used in structures.
NOTE 1 In National Annexes of EN 1999-1-4 specifications can be given regarding the use of the Structural
Classes.
Structural profiled sheeting is understood here to be profiled sheet, such as trapezoidal or sinusoidal
(Figure 1).
Perforated and micro profiled sheeting are also covered by this part.
This document also covers spacer constructions between the outer and inner or upper and lower skins
as well as supporting members for roofs, walls and ceilings made from cold-formed profiled sheeting and
the connections and attachments of the afore mentioned elements as long as they are involved in load
transfer, it also covers connections and attachments of these elements (Figure 2).
A combination of steel and aluminium structural profiled sheeting are permitted, e.g. liner trays made of
steel, stiffened by profiles made of aluminium. In this case, EN 1090-4 and this document apply.
This document also covers the deconstruction of structures made from cold-formed profiled sheeting and
structural members for roof, ceiling, floor and wall applications.
This document does not cover the manufacturing of structural members of all structural classes
according to EN 1999-1-4. These products are covered by EN 1090-3.
Welded sections are excluded from this part and are covered by EN 1090-3 except seal welding in low-
stress areas.
Composite structural profiled sheeting where the interaction between dissimilar materials are an integral
part of the structural behaviour such as sandwich panels and composite floors are not covered by this
standard.
NOTE 2 The structures covered in this standard can be for example
— single- or multi-skin roofs, whereby the load-bearing structure (lower skin) as well as the actual roof covering
(upper skin) or both consist of structural profiled sheeting;
— single- or multi-skin walls whereby the load-bearing structure (inner skin) as well as the actual cladding (outer
skin) or both consist of structural profiled sheeting; or
— suspended ceilings for interior fitting.
