CEN/TC 270 - Internal combustion engines

This document specifies noise test codes for determining the sound power level and the emission sound pressure level at the workstation of reciprocating internal combustion engine driven electrical power generating sets.
This document applies to constant and variable-speed reciprocating internal combustion (RIC) engine driven alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) generating sets for fixed and mobile applications with rigid or flexible mountings. It is applicable for land and marine use, excluding generating sets used on aircraft or to propel land vehicles and locomotives.
NOTE 1   For some specific applications (e.g. essential hospital supplies, high-rise buildings) supplementary requirements can be necessary. The provisions of this document can be regarded as a basis.
NOTE 2   This document is referenced with regard to noise in ISO 8528-13:2016, which contains requirements concerning the design of generating sets, verification of noise levels and information related to noise in the operating and maintenance instructions.

ISO 8528-13:2016 specifies the safety requirements for reciprocating internal combustion (RIC) engine driven generating sets up to 1 000 V consisting of an RIC engine, an alternating current (AC) generator including the additional equipment required for operating, e.g. controlgear, switchgear, auxiliary equipment.
It is applicable to generating sets for land and marine use (domestic, recreational and industrial application). It is not applicable to generating sets used on board of seagoing vessels and mobile offshore units as well as on aircraft or to propel road vehicles and locomotives.
NOTE          This part of ISO 8528 does not apply to arc welding equipment (IEC 60974 series).
The special requirements needed to cover operation in potentially explosive atmospheres are not covered in this part of ISO 8528.
The hazards relevant to RIC engine driven generating sets are identified in Annex A.
ISO 8528-13:2016 deals with the special requirements of test and safety design which should be observed in addition to the definitions and requirements in ISO 8528-1, ISO 8528-2, ISO 8528-3, ISO 8528-4, ISO 8528-5 and ISO 8528-6, where applicable. It specifies safety requirements in order to protect the user from danger.

This standard specifies the safety requirements for compression ignition engines and their essential auxiliaries used in all applications on land, underground and water, except engines used to propel road vehicles and aircraft. The special requirements needed to cover operation in potentially explosive atmospheres are not covered in this standard.
The engine in terms of this standard is understood as the prime mover up to its driving extremitie(s) for power take off(s).
The hazards relevant to compression ignition engines are identified in annex A.
This standard should be referred to in other standards wherever compression ignition engines are used.
This European Standard is not applicable to compression ignition engines which are manufactured before the date of its publication as EN.

Specifies requirements for handle starting equipment used on reciprocating internal combustion engines for land, rail and marine use, excluding engines used to propel road vehicles and aircraft. It may be applied to engines used to propel road construction, earth moving machines and for other applications where no suitable International Standard exists. In addition to the technical safety requirements, this part of ISO 11102 describes procedures for checking adherence to these requirements.

ISO 14314:2004 specifies the safety requirements for RIC engine re-coil starting equipment intended for use on reciprocating internal combustion engines for land, rail and marine use, excluding engines intended for use to propel road vehicles and aircraft. It may be applied to engines intended for use to propel construction and earth-moving machines and for other applications where no other suitable International Standards exist.
In addition to the technical safety requirements, it also contains the method of checking the adherence to these requirements.
This International Standard only addresses the hazards associated with the installation and operation of re-coil starting equipment.
It is primarily directed at machines which are manufactured after the date of publication of this International Standard.

This part of IS0 11102 describes the method for testing the angle of disengagement of starting handle equipment i.e. testing of the essential safety requirements according to IS0 111024 for reciprocating internal combustion engines for land, rail and marine use, excluding engines used to propel road vehicles and aircraft. It may be applied to engines used to propel road construction, earth moving machines and for other applications where no suitable international standards exist.

This European standard specifies the safety requirements and/or measures to remove the hazards and limit the risks on reciprocating internal combustion compression ignition engines of group II categories 2 and 3 for use in flammable dust atmospheres. The standard does not define requirements relating to the driven machinery. These requirements can be found in the appropriate application standards.

This European standard specifies the safety requirements and/or measures to remove the hazards and limit the risks on reciprocating internal combustion compression ignition engines of group I category M2 for use in underground workings susceptible to firedamp and/or combustible dust hereinafter referred to as engines. The standard does not define requirements relating to the driven machinery.

This European standard specifies the safety requirements and/or measures to remove the hazards and limit the risks on reciprocating internal combustion compression ignition engines hereinafter referred to as "engines" of group II categories 2 and 3 for use in potentially explosive atmospheres of flammable gas and vapour. This European standard does not apply to flammable gas and vapour atmospheres containing carbon disulphide (CS2).
