La présente Norme internationale établit la nomenclature et la terminologie des filières rondes de filetage destinées à l'exécution de filetages conformes aux normes ISO, et donne la correspondance des termes dans les trois langues ISO.  
NOTE -- En supplément aux termes donnés dans les trois langues officielles de l'ISO (anglais, français, russe), la présente Norme internationale donne les termes équivalents en allemand, italien et néerlandais; ces termes ont été inclus à la demande du comité technique ISO/TC 29, et sont publiés sous la responsabilité des comités membres de l'Allemagne, R.F. (DIN), de l'Italie (UNI) et des Pays-Bas (NNI). Toutefois, seuls les termes et définitions donnés dans les langues officielles peuvent être considérés comme termes et définitions ISO.

Foreword ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national Standards institutes (ISO member bodies). The work of developing International Standards is car- ried out through ISO technical committees. Every member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been set up has the right to be represented on that committee. Interna- tional organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. Draft Inter national Standards adopted by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies for approva I before their acceptance as International Standards by the ISO Council. International S tandard ISO 5968 was developed by Technical tools, and was circulated to the member bodies in March 1979.
