This document summarizes EN 161:2011/FprA2 - a CEN draft amendment updating requirements for automatic shut-off valves for gas burners and gas appliances. The amendment (FprA2, Feb 2012) modifies EN 161:2011 to incorporate the valve requirement changes set out in N1352.   • Valves that use a diaphragm to provide part of the closing force must be designed to fail-safe: if the diaphragm is damaged the closure member shall close.
  • The valve’s maximum internal leakage after diaphragm damage is limited to 1 dm³/h.
  • Leakage test procedure (6.2.107.2): rupture or remove the diaphragm/assist part, de‑energize the valve, and measure internal leakage per EN 161:2010, clause 7.3.

• Sealing force requirements for one‑port balanced valves (modification to 7.105.1)

  • One‑port balanced valves must provide a minimum sealing force over the closure member orifice area corresponding to the declared Class (see Table 2 in EN 161).
  • That sealing force must be supplied only by the closing spring and verified using the specified test methods (7.105.2.1.1 and 7.105.2.1.2).
