1 Modifications to the “Introduction”
Replace the last paragraph with:
“This document was developed in relationship with Regulation (EU) 2019/2016 of 11 March 2019 and its
amendments on energy labelling and Regulation (EU) 2019/2019 of 01 October 2019 and its amendments on
ecodesign for refrigerating appliances.”
2 Modifications to Clause 6, “Determination of energy consumption”
Replace the first item in paragraph 3 of 6.1 with:
“Steady state power consumption – this is determined at ambient temperatures of 16 °C and 32 °C – see
Annex B, with the exception of low noise appliances which is determined at 25 °C.”
In 6.8.5, “Total energy consumption”, add the following clause to E :
daily16°C
“For the determination of E for mobile refrigerating appliances which are placed on the market with an
daily16°C
AC/DC converter and having only a pantry compartment and which are not falling under the category low
noise refrigerating appliances, the following cases have to be considered:
a) If the appliance is equipped with a main switch which switches off the complete appliance, then E = 0
daily16°C
kWh/d shall be used for further calculation
b) If the appliance is equipped with a switch which switches off the cooling circuit, then E = stand-by
daily16°C
energy consumption shall be used for further calculation
c) If the appliance is equipped with no main switch, the appliance is disconnected from mains and E = 0
daily16°C
kWh/d shall be used for further calculation.”
Replace the last paragraph with the following:
“E , expressed in kWh/24h and rounded to three decimal places for the calculation of the total annual energy
daily
consumption is then as follows:
E = E
daily 25
where E is the daily energy consumption at an ambient temperature of 25 °C and derived according 6.8.2 and
6.8.3.”
3 Modifications to Annex B, “Determination of steady state power and temperature”
In B.5, “Correction of steady state power”, add the following note Z1 and paragraph to Formula (15):

NOTE Z1 For a refrigerating appliance that consists only of a pantry compartment and which is equipped with a main
switch which switches off the complete appliance (see 6.8.5, “Total energy consumption”), P = P
SS SSM
For a compartment the target temperature of which is above ambient temperature, Formula (15) shall not be
applied.”
In B.5, “Correction of steady state power”, replace Table B.1 — Assumed ΔCOP adjustment with:

Product type ΔCOP adjustment at ΔCOP adjustment at ΔCOP adjustment at
16 °C 25 °C 32 °C
Two or more 0,000 per K increase −0.007 per K increase −0,014 per K increase
compartments
One compartment −0,004 per K increase −0,012 per K increase −0,019 per K increase

4 Modifications to Annex C, “Defrost and recovery energy and temperature
change”
In C.3.3, “Case DF1 calculation of values” replace the definition below Formula (19a) with the following and add
the note:

E is the measured defrost heater energy during the defrost and recovery period j in Wh.”
df-heater j
NOTE  This formula is applied to each valid defrost during steady-state. A representative value for the fixed defrost adder
(ΔEdf-adder) is determined in accordance with Formula (64) and is subsequently used in the evaluation of a load processing
test [using Formula (51) or, if multiple defrost systems are present, Formula (65)].”
Replace the second paragraph of C.4 with the following:
“Option 1: A valid value of ΔE shall be determined for each temperature control setting used for an energy
df
determination on a single appliance in accordance with 6.8.2 and 6.8.3.
The defrost and recovery period selected for each temperature control setting shall be adjacent to the steady-
state period used for energy determination in Annex B (this may occur before or after the steady-state period
for Case SS1; it shall be before the steady-state period for Case SS2). A test period under Case SS1 may
include part or all of Period D prior to a defrost or all or Part of Period F after a defrost. Any valid SS1 test period
shall not include any data after the end of Period D and before the start of Period F for any defrost and recovery
event
The representative value for ΔE for the appliance shall be the average of all valid values for test points used
df
for energy determination.”
5 Modifications to Annex D, “Defrost interval”
Replace the first paragraph of D.4.1 with the following:
“For this type of controller, the defrost interval is varied in proportion to the frost load on the evaporator. Most
systems do not measure the frost load on the evaporator directly (but this is possible), so these types of systems
are usually controlled by software which uses a number of parameters to indirectly estimate the frost load and
adjust the defrost interval progressively.”
Replace the content of D.4.2 “Variable defrost controllers-declared defrost intervals” with the following:
“For the purposes of this standard, the defrost interval for these types of controllers is based on a calculation,
which is a function of the declared shortest possible defrost interval and the declared longest possible defrost
interval at any ambient temperature within the declared range.
The defrost interval for a variable defrost system is given by:
∆∆tt×
dd−−max min
∆t = (27)


02, × ∆∆t −+t ∆t
( )
dd−max −min d−min

Where
Δt is the defrost interval for an ambient temperature of 32 °C
df32
Δt is the declared maximum possible defrost interval as specified by the manufacturer, in hours of
d-max
elapsed time and shall be the minimum value of the Δt at all ambient temperatures within the
d-max
declared range.
Δt is the declared minimum possible defrost interval as specified by the manufacturer, in hours of
d-min
elapsed time and shall be the minimum value of the Δt at all ambient temperatures within the
d-min
declared range.
The following limits are placed on the input variable Δt and Δt , irrespective of instructions:
d-max d-min
— Δt shall not exceed 12 h (elapsed time).
d-min
— Δt shall not exceed 96 h (elapsed time).
d-max
— Δt shall be greater than Δt
d-max d-min
The basis for the claim of the minimum possible defrost interval Δt shall be the shortest conceivable defrost
d-min
interval under heavy usage conditions (i.e. heavy use, frequent door openings and high humidity) at any ambient
temperature. Tests under heavy usage conditions to verify the claimed value may be undertaken. The value
claimed for the maximum possible defrost interval Δt shall be achievable under test conditions with all
d-max
compartment temperatures at or below target temperatures in steady-state (see Annex B) at any ambient
temperature. Manufacturers shall specify any special conditions required to achieve the claimed value.
Abnormal appliance operation related to fault recovery, e.g. blocked fans due to ice formation, should be
excluded from the verification tests.
Testing at other ambient temperatures and with some processing load (e.g. door openings) may be undertaken
to verify that the defrost controller operates over a continuum of values, or a significant number of steps,
appropriately spaced.
The value for Δt at an ambient temperature of 16 °C shall be double the value of Δt .
df16 df32
Replace D.4.4 “Variable defrost controllers-non compliant” with the following:
“D.4.4 Variable defrost controllers – deviating cases
Where a system is nominally variable defrost but where:
— no values for Δt and Δt have been provided/stated by the manufacturer and there is no evidence
d-max d-min
that the
