EN ISO 14931:2021 / ISO 14931:2021 - Leather for apparel (excluding furs) - Specifications and sampling procedures - is a CEN-adopted international standard that defines recommended values, test methods and sampling/conditioning procedures for apparel leather. The third edition (2021) updates limits for chemicals, adds mechanical requirements (tensile, elongation, stitch tear) and includes packaging and marking guidance. It supersedes EN ISO 14931:2015.

  • Coating thickness ≤ 0.15 mm (ISO 17186)
  • Tear load ≥ 15 N (ISO 3377-1)
  • Tensile strength ≥ 12 N/mm2 and elongation 40–90 % (ISO 3376)
  • Flexing resistance: aniline ≥ 20 000 cycles, pigmented finish ≥ 50 000 cycles (ISO 5402-1)
  • Stitch tear resistance ≥ 40 N (ISO 23910)

  • Chromium(VI) < 3 mg/kg (ISO 17075-1/2)
  • Formaldehyde: ≤ 75 mg/kg for leather in direct skin contact; ≤ 150 mg/kg for non-skin contact; ≤ 20 mg/kg for infants (ISO 17226-1)
  • Total chlorinated phenols < 0.1 %; individual limits for PCP, tetra-/tri-/di-/mono-CP (ISO 17070)
  • Azo colourants ≤ 30 mg/kg (ISO 17234 series)

  • Light fastness (blue scale): aniline, nubuck, suede ≥ 3; other finishes ≥ 4 (ISO 105-B02)

This document (EN ISO 14931:2021) has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 120 "Leather"
in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 289 “Leather” the secretariat of which is held by
UNI.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an
identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by November 2021, and conflicting national standards
shall be withdrawn at the latest by November 2021.

Komitee CEN/TC 289 erstellt.

Vorwort
ISO (die Internationale Organisation für Normung) ist eine weltweite Vereinigung nationaler
Normungsorganisationen (ISO-Mitgliedsorganisationen). Die Erstellung von Internationalen Normen wird
üblicherweise von Technischen Komitees von ISO durchgeführt. Jede Mitgliedsorganisation, die Interesse an
