Fire classification of construction products and building elements - Part 1: Classification using data from reaction to fire tests
This European Standard provides the reaction to fire classification procedure for all construction products, including products incorporated within building elements.
Products are considered in relation to their end use application.
This document applies to three categories, which are treated separately in this European Standard:
- construction products, excluding floorings and linear pipe thermal insulation products;
- floorings;
- linear pipe thermal insulation products.
NOTE The treatment of some families of products is still under review and can necessitate amendments to this European Standard (see European Commission Decision 2000/147/EC).

EN 13501-1:2007+A1:2009 (E) 5 Foreword This document (EN 13501-1:2007+A1:2009) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 127 “Fire safety in buildings”, the secretariat of which is held by BSI. This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by March 2010, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by March 2010. Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of patent rights. CEN [and/or CENELEC] shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights. This document includes Amendment 1, approved by CEN on 2009-07-17. EN 13501-1:2007+A1:2009 (E) 6 Introduction The aim of this European Standard is to define a harmonized procedure for the classification of reaction to fire of construction products. This classification is based on the test procedures listed in !Clause 5 and the relevant field of application procedures". This European Standard has been prepared in support of the second essential requirement in the EC Construction Products Directive (89/106/EEC) and as detailed in the Interpretative Document Number 2: Safety in case of fire (OJ C62 Vol. 37). Background information on the Commission Decision regarding the classification of the reaction to fire performance of construction products is given in Annex A. The European Commission has drawn up a list of products which, under specified conditions, can be considered to be class A1 without testing. This information is given in the Commission Decision 96/603/EC (OJ L 267 19.10.1966 p23) as amended by 2000/605/EC (OJ L 258 12.10.2000 p36) and 2003/424/EC (OJ L 144 12.6.2003 p9). Additionally there is a procedure by which certain products can be assigned a particular fire classification without the need for testing. Such products have well established reaction to fire performance and have been agreed by the Standing Committee on Construction. Agreements relating to such products which may be ‘classified without further testing’ (CWFT) are published in the Official Journal of the EC and are listed on the Nando-CPD database on the EC website ( http://europa.eu.int/comm/enterprise/construction ). Parts 2, 3 and 4 of this European Standard are concerned with classification resulting from fire resistance tests. Part 5 covers classification resulting from tests for external fire exposure to roofs. !NOTE 1"
If the classification based on the tests and criteria given in Tables 1 and 2 is not appropriate, one or more reference scenarios (representative scale tests typifying agreed hazard scenarios) can be called upon within the context of a defined procedure. This procedure is intended to be the subject of a future European Standard or Commission Decision, on the basis of an agreement between the Commission and the Member States, in consultation with CEN/CENELEC and EOTA. !NOTE 2

EN 13501-1:2007+A1:2009 (D) Vorwort Dieses Dokument (EN 13501-1:2007+A1:2009) wurde vom Technischen Komitee CEN/TC 127 „Baulicher Brandschutz“ erarbeitet, dessen Sekretariat vom BSI gehalten wird. Diese Europäische Norm muss den Status einer nationalen Norm erhalten, entweder durch Veröffentlichung eines identischen Textes oder durch Anerkennung bis Februar 2010, und etwaige entgegenstehende nationale Normen müssen bis Februar 2010 zurückgezogen werden. Dieses Dokument beinhaltet die von CEN am 17. Juli 2009 genehmigte Änderung A1. Dieses Dokument ersetzt !EN 13501-1:2007". Der Beginn und das Ende des hinzugefügten oder geänderten Textes wird im Text durch die Textmar-kierungen !" angezeigt. Neben der Berichtigung von Fehlern beinhaltet dieses Dokument nunmehr auch die Klassifizierung zum Brandverhalten von Rohrdämmstoffen. !Die Änderung 1 ermöglicht die Berücksichtigung von Berichten zum erweiterten Anwendungsbereich im Klassifizierungsverfahren." CEN-, CENELEC- und EOTA-Komitees, die Technische Spezifikationen mit Anforderungen an das Brandver-halten von Bauprodukten erarbeiten, sollten auf die Klassifizierung zum Brandverhalten in dieser Europäi-schen Norm verweisen und nicht direkt auf die einzelnen Prüfnormen. EN 13501-1:2007+A1:2009 (D) Einleitung Das Ziel dieser Europäischen Norm ist die Definition eines harmonisierten Verfahrens für die Klassifizierung des Brandverhaltens von Bauprodukten. Diese Klassifizierung !beruht auf Prüfverfahren, die in Abschnitt 5 aufgeführt sind, sowie auf den maßgebenden Regeln für den direkten und erweiterten Anwendungs-bereich". Diese Europäische Norm wurde erstellt zur Unterstützung der zweiten wesentlichen Anforderung der „EG-Bauprodukten-Richtlinie (89/106/EWG)“, die im Detail im „Grundlagendokument 2: Brandschutz (OJ C62 Vol. 37)“ beschrieben ist. Hintergrundinformationen zur Entscheidung der Kommission bezogen auf die Klassifizierung zum Brand-verhalten von Bauprodukten sind in Anhang A aufgeführt. Die Europäische Kommission hat eine Liste von Bauprodukten erstellt, die unter genau angegebenen Bedingungen ohne Prüfung als Klasse A1 klassifiziert werden können. Diese Information ist in der Entscheidung 96/603/EG (OJ L 267 19.10.1966 S. 23) der Kommission, die mit 2000/605/EG (OJ L 258 12.10.2000 S. 36) und 2003/424/EG (OJ L 144 12.6.2003 S. 9) ergänzt wurde, aufgeführt. Weiterhin gibt es ein Verfahren, nach dem bestimmten Produkten ohne weitere Prüfung eine spezifische Klassifizierung zum Brandverhalten zugeordnet werden kann. Diese Produkte zeigen ein allgemein akzep-tiertes Brandverhalten und wurden entsprechend vom Ständigen Ausschuss für Bauprodukte diesbezüglich abgesegnet. Beschlüsse zu derartigen Produkten, die „ohne weitere Prüfungen klassifiziert“ (CWFT, en: classified without further testing’) werden dürfen, werden im Europäischen Amtsblatt der EG veröffentlicht und
in der Nando-CPD Datenbank der EG Web-Seite aufgeführt (http://europa.eu.int/comm/enterprise/construction). Teile 2, 3 und 4 dieser Europäischen Norm befassen sich mit der Klassifizierung auf Grundlage von Feuer-widerstandsprüfungen. EN 13501-5 deckt die Klassifizierung auf Grundlage von Prüfungen für Dächer bei Beanspruchung durch Flugfeuer von außen ab. !ANMERKUNG 1" Wenn die Klassifizierung auf Grundlage der Prüfungen und Kriterien nach den Tabellen 1 und 2 nicht anwendbar ist, können ein oder mehrere Referenz-Szenarien (repräsentative maßstäbliche Versuche, die vereinbarte Risiko-Szenarien darstellen) im Zusammenhang mit einem definierten Verfahren herangezogen werden. Dieses Verfahren ist beabsichtigt, Gegenstand einer zukünftigen Europäischen Norm oder Entscheidung der Kommission auf Basis einer Vereinbarung zwischen der Kommission und den Mitgliedstaaten nach Rücksprache mit CEN/CENELEC und EOTA zu sein. !ANMERKUNG 2 Die Prüfberichte bilden die Grundlage für die Berichte zum erweiterten Anwendungsbereich, wie in prEN 15725 erläutert." 6 SIST EN 13501-1:2007+A1:2009
EN 13501-1:2007+A1:2009 (D) 1 Anwendungsbereich Diese Europäische Norm legt die Verfahren zur Klassifizierung des Brandverhaltens von Bauprodukten einschließlich der Produkte innerhalb von Bauteilen fest. Bauprodukte werden unter Berücksichtigung ihrer praktischen Anwendung betrachtet. Diese Europäische Norm wird auf drei Kategorien von Bauprodukten angewendet, die getrennt behandelt werden. ⎯ Bauprodukte, mit Ausnahme von Bodenbelägen und Rohrisolierung; ⎯ Bodenbeläge; ⎯ Rohrisolierungen.
