This European Standard provides the fire performance classification procedures for roofs/roof coverings exposed to external fire based on the four test methods given in CEN/TS 1187:2012 and the relevant extended application rules.
For the classification of a roof/roof covering, only those test methods and those application rules need to be applied for which the corresponding classification is envisaged.
Products are considered in relation to their end use application.
NOTE The distinction between roofs with a steep slope and facades, in terms of the test and classification standard to be applied, may be subject to national regulations.
General information on the four test methods in CEN/TS 1187 is given in Annex A.

This European Standard specifies the provision and illumination of escape routes and safety signs in the event of failure of the normal supply, and specifies the minimum provision of such emergency lighting based on the size, type and usage of the premises. This standard relates to the provision of electric emergency escape lighting in all work places and premises open to the public. This European Standard does not cover private domestic premises but its provisions are applicable to common access routes within multi-storey dwellings. This European Standard is also applicable to standby lighting used as emergency escape lighting. There are emerging way guidance techniques that, when applied to escape routes in addition to conventional emergency lighting luminaires, can enhance its effectiveness in an emergency.

This European Standard specifies the special provisions and safety rules to ensure the behaviour of lifts in the event of fire in a building, on the basis of a fire signal(s) to the lift(s) control system.
This standard applies to all new passenger lifts and goods passenger lifts with all types of drives. However, it may be used as a basis to improve the safety of existing passenger and goods passenger lifts.
- Standard17 pagesEnglish languagesale 10% offe-Library read for1 day
1.1 This standard specifies the additional or deviating requirements to EN 81-1 and EN 81-2 for new passenger and goods passenger lifts, which may be used for firefighting and evacuation purposes under firefighters control. During normal conditions firefighters lifts should preferably be used as normal lifts.
1.2 This standard applies, when the following conditions are fulfilled:
- the lift is in scope of EN 81-1 or EN 81-2;
- the lift well and the environment of the lift are designed to restrict the ingress of fire, heat and smoke to the lift well;
- the building design limits the flow of water into the lift well;
- the firefighters lift is not escape route;
- the lift well and the lift environment are fire protected for at least to the same value as the building structure;
- the power supply is secure and reliable;
- the cable providing power to the lift is fire protected to the same fire protection level as given to the lift well structure;
- a suitable maintenance and verification plan is implemented.
1.3 This standard does not cover:
- requirements for the fire resisting structure of the building essential to provide a safe environment for the lift, lift users and to limit the spread of fire;
- the use of lifts with partially enclosed wells for use as firefighters lifts;
- lifts which are not included in fire resisting building structure.
1.4 This standard does not define:
- the number of firefighters lifts, the size of the lifts and the floors to be served during firefighters operations;
- the use of multi deck lift lower decks for firefighting operations.
1.5 This standard deals with the significant hazards, hazardous situations and events relevant to firefighters lifts (as listed in clause 4) when they are used as intended and under the conditions as foreseen by the installer.
1.6 The following significant hazards are not dealt with in this standard and are assumed to be addressed by the building designer:
- not having enough or correctly located firefighters lifts to move the firefighters up the building;
- a fire in the firefighters lift well, safe area, machinery space or lift car;
- the absence of building floor identification signs at any floor;
- water management is not correctly operating.

This European Standard establishes the general principles for determining the fire resistance of various elements of construction when subjected to standard fire exposure conditions. Alternative and additional procedures to meet special requirements are given in EN 1363-2. The principle that has been embodied within all European Standards relating to fire resistance testing is that where aspects and procedures of testing are common to all specific test methods e.g. the temperature/time curve, then they are specified in this test method. Where a general principle is common to many specific test methods but the details vary according to the element being tested (e.g. the measurement of unexposed face temperature), then the principle is given in this document, but the details are given in the specific test method. Where certain aspects of testing are unique to a particular specific test method (e.g. the air leakage test for fire dampers), then no details are included in this document. The test results obtained might be directly applicable to other similar elements, or variations of the element tested. The extent to which this application is permitted depends upon the field of direct application of the test result. This is restricted by the provision of rules which limit the variation from the tested specimen without further evaluation. The rules for determining the permitted variations are given in each specific test method. Variations outside those permitted by direct application are covered under extended application of test results. This results from an in-depth review of the design and performance of a particular product in test(s) by a recognised authority. Further consideration on direct and extended application is given in Annex A. The duration for which the tested element, as modified by its direct or extended field of application, satisfies specific criteria will permit subsequent classification. All values given in this Standard are nominal unless otherwise specified.

This European Standard specifies requirements and gives recommendations for the design, installation and maintenance of fixed fire sprinkler systems in buildings and industrial plants, and particular requirements for sprinkler systems that are integral to measures for the protection of life.
This European Standard covers only the types of sprinkler specified in EN 12259 1 (see Annex L).
The requirements and recommendations of this European Standard are also applicable to any addition, extension, repair or other modification to a sprinkler system. They are not applicable to water spray or deluge systems.
It covers the classification of hazards, provision of water supplies, components to be used, installation and testing of the system, maintenance, and the extension of existing systems, and identifies construction details of buildings which are the minimum necessary for satisfactory performance of sprinkler systems complying with this European Standard.
This European Standard does not cover water supplies to systems other than sprinklers. Its requirements can be used as guidance for other fixed firefighting extinguishing systems, provided that any specific requirements for other firefighting extinguishing supplies are taken into account.
This European Standard is intended for use by those concerned with purchasing, designing, installing, testing, inspecting, approving, operating and maintaining automatic sprinkler systems, in order that such equipment will function as intended throughout its life.
This European Standard is intended only for fixed fire sprinkler systems in buildings and other premises on land. Although the general principles might well apply to other uses (e.g. maritime use), For these other uses additional considerations should be taken into account.
The requirements are not valid for automatic sprinkler systems on ships, in aircraft, on vehicles and mobile fire appliances or for below ground systems in the mining industry.
Sprinkler system design deviations might be allowed when such deviations have been shown to provide a level of protection at least equivalent to this European Standard, for example by means of full-scale fire testing where appropriate, and where the design criteria have been fully documented.

This European Standard identifies the particular requirements and classifications necessary to demonstrate the characteristics of fire resistance, smoke leakage control and self closing durability for pedestrian doorsets, industrial type doorsets and openable windows.
Requirements for performance characteristics for these products can be found in the appropriate product standards.
This document does not cover any component reliability or durability testing of mechanical heat detectors (e.g. fusible link devices).
The requirements relating to the use of alternative items of building hardware are provided.
NOTE Fire resistance of doorsets and fire resistance of openable windows and smoke control of doorsets which differ from the original test specimen(s) are covered by the fields of direct and extended application relative to the result of test(s) to EN 1634-1 for fire resistance and EN 1634-3 for smoke control.
