Ta dokument je del skupine, ki opredeljuje tretjo generacijo sistemov hitrega prenosa podatkov prek kabelskega omrežja. Ta serija je bila razvita za panogo kabelskih omrežij ter vključuje prispevke operaterjev in prodajalcev iz Severne Amerike, Evrope in drugih regij.
Med praksami načrtovanja kabelskega spektra, sprejetimi za različna omrežja po svetu, obstajajo razlike. Interoperabilnost opreme, izdelane v skladu s prvo možnostjo, z opremo, izdelano v skladu z drugo možnostjo, ni zahtevana.
Ti izbirni tehnologiji fizične plasti operaterjem omogočata prilagodljivost na področjih delovanja, za katera so pooblaščeni, vključno z načrtovanjem frekvence, elektromagnetno združljivostjo (EMC) ter varnostnimi zahtevami. Možnost iz točk 5 in 6, ki temelji na navzdolnjih kanalih s širino 6 MHz, se lahko na primer uporabi tudi za načrt kanalov s širino 8 MHz.
