Overview
SIST EN IEC 63044-5-3:2019/A1:2025 is a key European standard that specifies Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) requirements for Home and Building Electronic Systems (HBES) and Building Automation and Control Systems (BACS) used specifically in industrial environments. This amendment to the original 2019 edition updates EMC provisions to ensure reliable performance of HBES/BACS in the electrically noisy and demanding conditions found in industrial settings.
Developed by the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC) and based on IEC 63044-5-3:2017/AMD1:2022, this standard plays a critical role in harmonizing performance, safety, and interoperability of automation systems designed for homes, buildings, and industrial installations.
Key Topics
Scope of Application
The standard targets HBES and BACS that operate in industrial environments, setting EMC requirements to avoid interference with other electrical equipment and control systems.Immunity Requirements
Enhanced immunity testing against fast transient bursts, with testing voltage levels increased to ±1 kV for burst immunity, ensuring resilience under strong industrial electrical disturbances.Emission Requirements
Specifies emission limits according to IEC 61000-6-4:2018 Clause 6 for industrial environments, while excluding certain clauses to tailor emission controls for HBES/BACS devices.Testing and Performance Criteria
Defines standardized test conditions, immunity tests, and performance criteria according to the latest international amendments. The performance criteria ensure that HBES/BACS maintain functionality and reliability in electromagnetic environments typical of industrial applications.Normative References
Incorporates references from related standards such as IEC 63044-5-1:2017/AMD1:2022, which covers general EMC requirements, conditions, and test setups for HBES and BACS, and IEC 61000-6-4:2018, the generic EMC emission standard for industrial environments.
Applications
Industrial Building Automation
Enables the deployment of HBES and BACS within factories, production plants, and process control facilities, ensuring these systems can function effectively without electromagnetic interference from heavy machinery and industrial power networks.Smart Industrial Facilities
Supports integration of smart electronic systems for lighting, HVAC, security, and energy management tailored for complex industrial use cases that require rigorous EMC compliance.Electrical Accessory Design
Guides manufacturers in designing electrical accessories and control devices that meet EMC standards necessary for industrial spaces, contributing to safer, more reliable electronic infrastructure.Interoperability in Mixed Environments
Ensures both residential-style automation systems and robust industrial controls can coexist without signal degradation or malfunction due to EMC issues, fostering seamless communication and operation.
