Applies to electrical and electronic apparatus intended for use in residential, commercial and light-industrial environments. Immunity requirements in the frequency range 0 Hz to 400 GHz are covered. No tests need to be performed at frequencies where no requirements are specified. This generic EMC immunity standard is applicable if no relevant dedicated product or product-family EMC immunity standard exists. This standard applies to apparatus intended to be directly connected to a low-voltage public mains network or connected to a dedicated DC source which is intended to interface between the apparatus and the low-voltage public mains network. This standard applies also to apparatus which is battery operated or is powered by a non-public, but non-industrial, low-voltage power distribution system if this apparatus is intended to be used in the locations described below. The environments encompassed by this standard are residential, commercial and light-industrial locations, both indoor and outdoor. The following list, although not comprehensive, gives an indication of locations which are included: - residential properties, for example houses, apartments; - retail outlets, for example shops, supermarkets; - business premises, for example offices, banks; - areas of public entertainment, for example cinemas, public bars, dance halls; - outdoor locations, for example petrol stations, car parks, amusement and sports centres; - light-industrial locations, for example workshops, laboratories, service centres. Locations which are characterised by being supplied directly at low voltage from the public mains network are considered to be residential, commercial or light-industrial. The immunity requirements have been selected to ensure an adequate level of immunity for apparatus at residential, commercial and light-industrial locations. The levels do not, however, cover extreme cases, which may occur at any location, but with an extremely low probability of occurrenc

This International Standard is a basic safety publication primarily intended for use by
technical committees in the preparation of standards in accordance with the principles laid
down in IEC Guide 104 and ISO/IEC Guide 51.
It is not intended to be used as a stand-alone standard.
According to IEC Guide 104, technical committees, when preparing, amending, or revising
their publications, are required to make use of any basic safety publication such as IEC 61140.
This International Standard applies to the protection of persons and livestock against electric
shock. The intent is to give fundamental principles and requirements which are common to
electrical installations, systems and equipment or necessary for their coordination, without
limitations with regard to the magnitude of the voltage or current, or the type of current, and
for frequencies up to 1 000 Hz.
Some clauses in this standard refer to low-voltage and high-voltage systems, installations and
equipment. For the purposes of this standard, low-voltage is any rated voltage up to and
including 1 000 V a.c. or 1 500 V d.c.. High voltage is any rated voltage exceeding
1 000 V a.c. or 1 500 V d.c..
It should be noted that, for an efficient design and selection of protective measures, the type
of voltage that may occur and its waveform needs to be considered, i.e. a.c. or d.c. voltage,
sinusoidal, transient, phase controlled, superimposed d.c., as well as a possible mixture of
these forms. The installations or equipment may influence the waveform of the voltage, e.g.
by inverters or converters. The currents flowing under normal operating conditions and under
fault conditions depend on the described voltage.

This International Standard applies to multimedia equipment (MME) as defined in 3.1.24 and
having a rated r.m.s. AC or DC supply voltage not exceeding 600 V.
Equipment within the scope of CISPR 13 or CISPR 22 is within the scope of this publication.
MME intended primarily for professional use is within the scope of this publication.
The radiated emission requirements in this standard are not intended to be applicable to the
intentional transmissions from a radio transmitter as defined by the ITU, nor to any spurious
emissions related to these intentional transmissions.
Equipment, for which emission requirements in the frequency range covered by this
publication are explicitly formulated in other CISPR publications (except CISPR 13 and
CISPR 22), are excluded from the scope of this publication.
In-situ testing is outside the scope of this publication.
This publication covers two classes of MME (Class A and Class B). The MME classes are
specified in Clause 4.
The objectives of this publication are:
1) to establish requirements which provide an adequate level of protection of the radio
spectrum, allowing radio services to operate as intended in the frequency range 9 kHz to
400 GHz;
2) to specify procedures to ensure the reproducibility of measurement and the repeatability of
results.

This EMC product-family standard, for immunity requirements, applies to the components of the following alarm systems, intended for use in and around buildings in residen¬tial, commercial, light industrial and industrial environments:
– access control systems, for security applications;
– alarm transmission systems 1);
– CCTV systems, for security applications;
– fire detection and fire alarm systems;
– hold-up alarm systems;
– intruder alarm systems;
– social alarm systems;
The tests and severities to be used are the same for indoor and outdoor applications of fixed, movable and portable equipment.
The levels do not cover extreme cases, which may occur in any location, but with an extremely low probability of occurrence, or in special locations close to powerful emitters (e.g. radar transmitters).
Equipment within the scope of this standard should be designed in order to operate satisfactorily in the environmental electromagnetic conditions of residential, commercial, light industrial and industrial environments. This implies particularly that it should be able to operate correctly within the conditions fixed by the electromagnetic compatibility levels for the various disturbances on the low voltage public supply system as defined by EN 61000 2 2. The immunity tests in this standard only concern the most critical disturbance phenomena.
For equipment using radio signalling, mains signalling or with connections to the public telephone system, additional requirements, from other standards specific to these signalling media, might apply.
This standard does not specify basic safety requirements, such as protection against electrical shocks, unsafe operation, insulation coordination and related dielectric tests.
This standard does not cover EMC emission requirements. These are covered by other appropriate standards.

EN IEC 60825-1 is applicable to safety of laser products emitting laser radiation in the wavelength range 180 nm to 1 mm. Although lasers exist which emit at wavelengths less than 180 nm (within the vacuum ultraviolet), these are not included in the scope of the standard since the laser beam normally has to be enclosed in an evacuated enclosure, and, therefore, the potential optical radiation hazards are inherently minimal. A laser product may consist of a single laser with or without a separate power supply or may incorporate one or more lasers in a complex optical, electrical, or mechanical system. Typically, laser products are used for demonstration of physical and optical phenomena, materials processing, data reading and storage, transmission and display of information, etc. Such systems have found use in industry, business, entertainment, research, education, medicine and consumer products. Laser products that are sold to other manufacturers for use as components of any system for subsequent sale are not subject to IEC 60825-1, since the final product will itself be subject to this standard. Laser products that are sold by or for manufacturers of end products for use as repair parts for the end products are also not subject to IEC 60825-1. However, if the laser system within the laser product is operable when removed from the end product, the requirements of this Part 1 apply to the removable laser system.

EN-IEC 60754-1 specifies the apparatus and procedure for the determination of the potential corrosivity of gases evolved during the combustion of materials taken from electric or optical fibre cable constructions by measuring the acidity (pH) and conductivity of an aqueous solution resulting from the gases evolved during the combustion. The general method specified in this standard is intended for the testing of individual components used in a cable construction. Formulae are given for the calculation of a weighted value for a combination of materials found in a specified cable. The use of this method will enable the verification of relevant requirements for either individual components or combined components of a cable construction stated in the appropriate cable specification. A simplified method is included for the testing of individual components where it is required only to demonstrate compliance with a stated performance requirement for quality control purposes.

This part of IEC 60754 specifies the apparatus and procedure for the determination of the amount of halogen acid gas, other than hydrofluoric acid, evolved during the combustion of compounds based on halogenated polymers and compounds containing halogenated additives taken from electric or optical fibre cable constructions. NOTE 1 This test method is not able to determine hydrofluoric acid. A suitable method may be found in IEC 60684-2. NOTE 2 This test method may be used to test materials to be used in cable manufacture, but a declaration of cable performance should not be made based on such a test. NOTE 3 The relevant cable standard should indicate which components of the cable should be tested. NOTE 4 For the purposes of this standard, the term “electric cable” covers all insulated metallic conductor cables used for the conveyance of energy or signals. The method specified in this standard is intended for the testing of individual components used in a cable construction. The use of this method will enable the verification of requirements which are stated in the appropriate cable specification for individual components of a cable construction. NOTE 5 By agreement between the producer and purchaser, the methodology given in this standard may be used to test combinations of materials representing a cable construction, but a declaration of cable performance to this standard should not be made based on such a test. Information on such a method is given in Annex A. For reasons of precision this method is not recommended for reporting values of halogen acid evolved less than 5 mg/g of the sample taken.

This part of IEC 61000 deals with the limitation of harmonic currents injected into the public supply system. The limits given in this International Standard are applicable to electrical and electronic equipment with a rated input current exceeding 16 A and up to and including 75 A per phase, intended to be connected to public low-voltage a.c. distribution systems of the following types:
• nominal voltage up to 240 V, single-phase, two or three wires;
• nominal voltage up to 690 V, three-phase, three or four wires;
• nominal frequency 50 Hz or 60 Hz.
Other distribution systems are excluded. The limits given in this edition apply to equipment when connected to 230/400 V, 50 Hz systems. See also Clause 5.
NOTE 1 The limits for the other systems will be added in a future edition of this standard.
NOTE 2 Equipment with a rated input current exceeding 75 A per phase should be considered in the harmonic current requirements for installations. See IEC/TR 61000-3-6 and future IEC/TR 61000-3-14. This standard applies to equipment intended to be connected to low-voltage systems interfacing with the public supply at the low-voltage level. It does not apply to equipment intended to be connected only to private low-voltage systems interfacing with the public supply only at the medium- or high-voltage level.
NOTE 3 The scope of this standard is limited to equipment connected to public low voltage systems because emissions from equipment installed in private low voltage systems can be controlled in aggregate at the MV point of common coupling using procedures defined in IEC/TR 61000-3-6 and/or by means of contractual agreements
between the distribution network operator and the customer. It is expected that operators of private systems will manage the EMC environment in a manner that ensures compliance with the provisions given in IEC/TR 61000-3-6 and/or the contractual agreements.
NOTE 4 If the equipment is intended to be connected only to private systems, the manufacturer should make this very clear in the product documentation.
NOTE 5 Professional equipment with input current ≤16 A per phase and that does not comply with the requirements and limits of standard IEC 61000-3-2 may be permitted to be connected to certain types of low voltage supplies, in the same way as equipment with input current >16 A per phase and that does not comply with the
requirements and limits of the present standard (see Annex C).
NOTE 6 The limits in this standard are not applicable to stand-alone harmonic filters.
This standard defines:
a) requirements and emission limits for equipment;
b) methods for type tests and simulations.
Tests according to this International Standard are type tests of complete pieces of equipment. Conformity with this standard can also be determined by validated simulations.

This part of IEC 61000 for EMC emission requirements applies to electrical and electronic apparatus intended for use in industrial environments as described below. Emission requirements in the frequency range 0 Hz to 400 GHz are covered. No measurement needs to be performed at frequencies where no requirement is specified. This generic EMC emission standard is applicable if no relevant dedicated product or productfamily EMC emission standard exists. This standard applies to a apparatus intended to be connected to a power network supplied from a high or medium voltage transformer dedicated to the supply of an installation feeding manufacturing or similar plant, and intended to operate in or in proximity to industrial locations, as described below. This standard applies also to apparatus, which is battery operated and intended to be used in industrial locations. The environments encompassed by this standard are industrial, both indoor and outdoor. Industrial locations are in addition characterised by the existence of one or more of the following examples: - industrial, scientific and medical (ISM)1)) apparatus; - heavy inductive or capacitive loads that are frequently switched; - high currents and associated magnetic fields. The object of this standard is to define the emission test requirements for apparatus defined in the scope in relation to continuous and transient, conducted and radiated disturbances. The emission requirements have been selected so as to ensure that disturbances generated by apparatus operating normally in industrial locations do not exceed a level that could prevent other apparatus from operating as intended. Fault conditions of apparatus are not taken into account. Not all disturbance phenomena have been included for testing purposes in this standard but only those considered as relevant for the equipment covered by this standard. These requirements represent essential electromagnetic compatibility emission requirements.

This CISPR publication applies to information technology equipment (ITE) as defined in CISPR 22. The object of this publication is to establish requirements that will provide an adequate level of intrinsic immunity so that the equipment will operate as intended in its environment. The publication defines the immunity test requirements for equipment within its scope in relation to continuous and transient conducted and radiated disturbances, including electrostatic discharges (ESD). Procedures are defined for the measurement of ITE and limits are specified which are developed for ITE within the frequency range from 0 Hz to 400 GHz. For exceptional environmental conditions, special mitigation measures may be required. Owing to testing and performance assessment considerations, some tests are specified in defined frequency bands or at selected frequencies. Equipment which fulfils the requirements at these frequencies is deemed to fulfil the requirements in the entire frequency range from 0 Hz to 400 GHz for electromagnetic phenomena. The test requirements are specified for each port considered. NOTE 1 Safety considerations are not covered in this publication. NOTE 2 In special cases, situations will arise where the level of disturbance may exceed the levels specified in this publication, for example where a hand-held transmitter is used in proximity to equipment. In these instances, special mitigation measures may have to be employed.

Provides requirements and specific guidance for the safe operation and maintenance of optical fibre communication systems (OFCS). In these systems optical power may be accessible outside the confinements of transmitting equipment or at great distance from the optical source. This standard requires the assessment of hazard levels at accessible locations as a replacement for classification according to IEC 60825-1. It applies to the complete installed end-to-end OFCS, including its components and subassemblies that generate or amplify optical radiation. Individual components and subassemblies that are sold only to OEM vendors for incorporation into a complete installed end-to-end OFCS need not be assessed to this standard, since the final OFCS should itself be assessed according to this standard. The objective of this Part 2 of IEC 60825 is: to protect people from optical radiation resulting from OFCS; - provide requirements for manufacturers, installation organizations, service organizations and operating organizations in order to establish procedures and supply information so that proper precautions can be adopted; - ensure adequate warnings are provided to individuals regarding the potential hazards associated with OFCS through the use of signs, labels and instructions.
