EN ISO 6410-2:1996 (ISO 6410-2:1993) defines how screw thread inserts are represented on technical drawings. The standard specifies methods for the detailed (true-shape), conventional and simplified representation, plus rules for designation and dimensioning of inserts in mechanical engineering drawings. Its purpose is to ensure consistent, unambiguous communication between designers, manufacturers and users of threaded parts and fasteners.

  • Additional information (manufacturer, catalogue number) may be added; designation can be shown with a leader line or as a dimension.

  • Follow general drawing presentation rules (ISO 128) and the general conventions in ISO 6410-1.
  • Simplified depictions should be used to reduce drawing complexity and improve clarity.

ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide
federation of national Standards bodies (ISO member bodies). The work
of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO
technical committees. Esch member body interested in a subject for
which a technical committee has been established has the right to be
represented on that committee. International organizations, govern-
mental and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the
