SIST EN 302 454-2 V1.1.1:2007 is the Slovenian adoption of ETSI EN 302 454-2 V1.1.1 (2007-07). It covers radiosondes used in the 1 668,4 MHz to 1 690 MHz range and states how they address the essential requirements of article 3.2 of the R&TTE Directive. Manufacturers, test labs and compliance teams use it to check that a radiosonde uses the allocated spectrum in a way that avoids harmful interference.
What does SIST EN 302 454-2 V1.1.1:2007 specify?
SIST EN 302 454-2 V1.1.1:2007 specifies the harmonized EN requirements for radiosondes in the Meteorological Aids service. The document is part 2 of a multi-part deliverable, and it focuses on essential requirements for spectrum use under article 3.2 of the R&TTE Directive.
The standard is organized into scope, references, definitions/symbols/abbreviations, technical requirements, compliance testing, interpretation of results, and three annexes.
| Annex | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Annex A | HS Requirements and conformance Test specifications Table (HS-RTT) |
| Annex B | EN title in the official languages |
| Annex C | Bibliography |
What are the key requirements of SIST EN 302 454-2 V1.1.1:2007?
SIST EN 302 454-2 V1.1.1:2007 sets out the transmitter limits and the test approach that supports presumption of conformity. In practice, it tells a manufacturer which radio characteristics must be controlled, how they are tested, and how the results are judged.
- Declared environmental profile - Clause 4.1 says the equipment shall meet the technical requirements within the supplier-declared operational environmental profile. This matters because the product must still comply under the real conditions the supplier claims, not only in a narrow lab setting.
- Frequency error - Clause 4.2.1 applies to all transmitters and uses the frequency error limits referenced from EN 302 454-1. This keeps the radiosonde on the intended channel and reduces the risk of interference.
- Carrier power (conducted) - Clause 4.2.2 applies when the transmitter may be used without an integral or dedicated antenna. That means the conducted output path has to stay within the referenced limits.
- Effective radiated power - Clause 4.2.3 applies to transmitters with an integral or dedicated antenna. This is the radiated-power check that matters when the antenna is part of the product design.
- Transmission power spectral density - Clause 4.2.4 applies to all digitally modulated transmitters. It controls how the signal energy is spread in frequency, which helps limit interference to nearby users.
- Spurious emissions - Clause 4.2.5 applies to all digitally modulated transmitters. It addresses unwanted emissions outside the intended signal and is a key part of spectrum hygiene.
- Frequency stability under low-voltage conditions - Clause 4.2.6 checks whether the transmitter stays within the referenced conditions when supply voltage is low. This matters for radiosondes because battery or supply variation can shift radio behavior.
- Compliance testing and uncertainty - Clause 5 requires normal test conditions, and extreme conditions where stated, plus the specified test power source and sample selection from EN 302 454-1. Clause 6 says the measured value versus the limit decides compliance, and the measurement uncertainty must be reported separately and kept within the stated limits.
Annex A ties each essential requirement to its test specification and marks the tests that form the Essential Radio Test Suite. That helps a test lab know which procedures are part of the core compliance path.
What terms does SIST EN 302 454-2 V1.1.1:2007 define?
SIST EN 302 454-2 V1.1.1:2007 relies on definitions from the R&TTE Directive and EN 302 454-1, rather than restating them here. The key terms and abbreviations used on the page include:
- Radiosonde - a radio instrument covered here for use in the Meteorological Aids service in the 1 668,4 MHz to 1 690 MHz band.
- Meteorological Aids (Met Aids) - the service area for the radiosondes covered by this standard.
- Electromagnetic compatibility and Radio spectrum Matters (ERM) - the ETSI technical area responsible for this standard.
- R&TTE Directive - Directive 1999/5/EC, the legal framework this harmonized standard supports.
- HS-RTT - the Harmonized Standard Requirements and conformance Test specifications Table in Annex A.
- EN 302 454-1 - the companion part that supplies the underlying technical characteristics, definitions and test methods used throughout this part.
Who uses SIST EN 302 454-2 V1.1.1:2007?
SIST EN 302 454-2 V1.1.1:2007 is used by radiosonde manufacturers, compliance engineers, test laboratories and quality managers. Manufacturers use it to design the transmitter and to prepare the environmental profile and test evidence. Test labs use it to run the transmitter suites and record uncertainty in the test report. Buyers and procurement teams in meteorological and radio-equipment supply chains use it to check whether a product is built and tested against the harmonized conformity route.
Which standards are used with SIST EN 302 454-2 V1.1.1:2007?
- Directive 1999/5/EC (R&TTE Directive) - the legal basis for the essential requirements covered by this harmonized EN.
- ETSI EN 302 454-1 (V1.1.1) - provides the technical characteristics, definitions and test methods that Part 2 references for limits and procedures.
- Directive 98/34/EC - the procedural basis mentioned in the foreword for producing the standard.
- ETSI TR 100 028 (V1.4.1) - gives the method used to calculate measurement uncertainty.
- ETSI EN 301 489-1 (V1.6.1) and ETSI EG 201 399 - listed in the bibliography as related material for EMC requirements and harmonized-standard development guidance.
What does the SIST EN 302 454-2 V1.1.1:2007 document contain?
SIST EN 302 454-2 V1.1.1:2007 contains the requirement set for radiosonde transmitter behavior, the associated compliance tests, and the rule for interpreting measurement results. Clause 4 gives the technical requirements, while Clause 5 gives the normal and extreme test conditions, the sample selection approach, and the transmitter test suites. Clause 6 explains how to compare measured values with limits and how to report measurement uncertainty.
Annex A is the most practical annex for conformity work because it maps each essential requirement to its test specification. Annex B provides the official-language titles, and Annex C lists related documents used for background and measurement practice.
