This document specifies the requirements, methods of rating and testing of single, double, three and four leg welded chain slings of grade 8 using components such as sling chains according to ISO 3076 together with links according to ISO 16798, hooks according to ISO 7597 and forged components according to ISO 8539. NOTE 1 For special lifting purposes not covered by this document, additionally intermediate links can be used, for example to connect components to each other having different working load limit. The range of nominal diameter, dn, covered by this document is from 4 mm to 45 mm. Chain slings according to this document are for use in the temperature range ?40 °C to +400 °C according to ISO 3056. NOTE 2 Concerning the use and maintenance of chain slings of grade 8, see ISO 3056. Chain slings according to this document comply with the general conditions of acceptance of ISO 1834 and are used for symmetrically distributed loads only. NOTE 3 For rating of chain slings with asymmetrically distributed loads, see ISO 3056. This document does not apply to mechanically joined chain slings. NOTE 4 For mechanically joined chain slings, see ISO 7593.

This document specifies the requirements for medium tolerance sling chains of grade 4 from stainless steel for use preferably in chain slings of grade 4 from stainless steel or for other lifting purposes. The range of nominal diameter, dn, covered by this document is from 4 mm to 22 mm. These sling chains are round steel short link chains with a nominal pitch, pn = 3 × dn, electrically welded, solution-annealed and tested. They are for use in the temperature range ?100 °C to +400 °C. They comply with the general conditions of acceptance of ISO 1834. NOTE 1 Because sling chains are solution-annealed in the finished condition, they can be used without restrictions with regard to the corrosion resistance of the steels according to 5.2. Higher grades of stainless steel chains are achieved by cold drawing of the wire prior to the chain manufacturing. Therefore, solution annealing is not possible without reduction of strength. The weld seam, in particular, represents a critical area with regard to the corrosion resistance. NOTE 2 Resistance butt welding and flash welding are listed in ISO 4063.

ISO/TR 21704:2017 contains investigations and investigation results on toughness of round steel link chains, tested with sub-size specimens. It applies to round steel link chains for hand operated chain hoists of grade TH and VH and for sling chains used for chain slings of grade 8. NOTE 1 Associated International Standards are ISO 16877, ISO 16872 and ISO 3076. In future it is intended to implement the results on toughness derived in this document in new standards. Eleven steels, provided by four manufacturers, were tested to find a test regime on sub-size specimens and requirements on the notch impact toughness values at design temperature which resulted out of the tests. These requirements are adjusted to the toughness values of full size ISO-V specimens. NOTE 2 The requirements are also valid for other cross sections of the chain than round.

ISO 3266:2010 specifies the general characteristics, performance and critical dimensions necessary for interchangeability and compatibility with other components, of forged steel eyebolts grade 4 for general lifting purposes. These eyebolts can be used for axial and inclined loading. ISO 3266:2010 specifies the dimensions of the eyes of eyebolts permitting direct connection with shackles of the same working load limit as those defined in ISO 2415. These dimensions also allow designs with a larger eye which can permit direct connection with sling hooks of similar working load limit. ISO 3266:2010 covers all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events relevant to eyebolts grade 4. ISO 3266:2010 is applicable to eyebolts grade 4 for use in the temperature range of -20 şC to 200 şC. ISO 3266:2010 is not applicable to eyebolts which are not forged in one piece. ISO 3266:2010 is not applicable to forged steel eyebolts grade 4 manufactured before the date of its publication as an International Standard.
