Overview

EN IEC 61960-4:2024/prA1:2025 (Amendment 1) is a CLC/CDV amendment to the IEC 61960-4 standard covering coin secondary lithium cells and batteries for portable applications. Published as a Committee Draft for Vote (CDV) in 2025, this amendment focuses on safety markings, ingestion warnings and packaging measures to reduce the risk of accidental ingestion of small coin cells by children. The document is currently under study and subject to change; it references related IEC work (notably IEC 60086-4) and targets a proposed stability date of 2026.

• Packaging safety requirements: Packaging for coin cells/batteries must be sized so it cannot itself fit within the ingestion gauge. For consumer-direct products with diameter ≥ 16 mm, packaging criteria in Annex E of IEC 60086-4:2025 apply.
