Uvajanje standarda EN ISO 9001 Sistemi vodenja kakovosti v organizacije, ki nudijo storitve notranjega ali mednarodnega prevoza blaga po cesti ali železnici, lahko predstavlja težavo, posebej če te organizacije običajno niso vajene voditi sistema kakovosti za področje storitev. Dodatno težavo glede uporabnosti sistema kakovosti v transportni/prevozniški storitveni verigi pa lahko predstavlja tudi dokaj pogosto (običajno) drobljenje oziroma delitev odgovornosti na posamezne člene v verigi.  
Smernice v tem evropskem standardu so namenjene uporabnikom kot pomoč pri reševanju zgoraj omenjenih težav. Posebna pozornost je posvečena obravnavi tistih delov standarda EN ISO 9001, kjer obstaja večja verjetnost za nastanek razlik med bolj običajnim proizvodnim okoljem in manj običajnim storitvenim. Standard podaja tudi napotke glede dodatnih aktivnosti in/ali previdnostnih ukrepov za zagotovitev čim večje učinkovitosti sistema vodenja kakovosti. Ta standard ne vsebuje nobenih dodatnih zahtev razen tistih iz EN ISO 9001.
