This European Standard specifies the main characteristics of the supply voltages of traction systems, such as traction fixed installations, including auxiliary devices fed by the contact line, and rolling stock, for use in the following applications :
– railways;
– guided mass transport systems such as tramways, elevated and underground railways mountain railways, and trolleybus systems;
– material transportation systems.
This European Standard does not apply to
– mine traction systems in underground mines,

1 - General
- adaptation of the Scope of this standard (include electrical safety related interface with vehicles, extension for electrified road transport – as shown above)
- Incorporate such small technical improvements from IEC 62128, made when transferring from previous version 50122-1, only insofar as these are essential for the coherence of the standard 50122-1
- Harmonize definitions with other railway standards (esp. EN 50119)
- check and redefine some definitions, harmonize with IEC 60050:
   o Check and harmonize terms and definitions specific to railway terminology with IEC 60050 chapters 811 and 821. If modification of a definition is essential, consider harmonization with a recent definition used in a railway specific standard and which should postdate the IEC entry.
   o Check and harmonize terms and definitions specific to electric shock with IEC60050 chapter 195 except where the terms and definitions in IEC 61140:2016 are appropriate and postdate IEC 60050 entry.
   o Check and harmonise other terms and definitions with IEC 50050 where appropriate.
- Review and ensure the document accurately and consistently uses the correct ‘verbal forms for expressions of provisions’ (according to the Internal Regulations, Part 3, clause 7), the wording used is clear and achieves good differentiation between normative and informative content.
- Review and ensure the document’s content relating to the prevention of electric shock is harmonized with basic safety publication IEC/EN 61140. In particular, the IEC/EN61140 content on fundamental rules, terminology, protective provisions (i.e. basic protection, fault protection, enhanced protective provisions).
- Review and revise clause 1 to ensure that the document’s scope is clear and accurately stated, it is harmonised with the title and only aspects falling within this scope are included within the document’s normative content. - Review and modify clause 5 and harmonize its content with the relevant aspects of IEC61140, EN50124 series, prEN50488. Particular consideration to be given to the dimensioning of air clearance associated with protective provisions. This will take note of the on-going SC9XC work on coordination between SC9XC / TC9X standards.
- Review and revise clause 6, in particular the content on protective provisions to improve its alignment with basic safety publication IEC/EN 61140 content for this aspect.
- revision of Chapter 7
- Review and revise clause 10.5 to ensure that the content is fit for purpose and is coordinated with EN 50124, EN 50119 and EN5 0488 in particular, such that these standards will provide a coherent approach. This will take note of the on-going SC9XC work on coordination between these standards.

This European Standard establishes requirements for the compatibility of rolling stock with infrastructure particularly in relation to:  –   co-ordination of protection principles between power supply and traction units, especially fault discrimination for short-circuits; –   co-ordination of installed power on the line and the power demand of trains; –   co-ordination of traction unit regenerative braking and power supply receptivity; –   co-ordination of harmonic behaviour. This European Standard deals with the definition and quality requirements of the power supply at the interface between traction units and fixed installations. This European Standard specifies the interface between rolling stock and electrical fixed installations for traction, in respect of the power supply system. The interaction between pantograph and overhead contact line is dealt with in EN 50367. The interaction with the “control-command” subsystem (especially signalling) is not dealt with in this standard. Requirements are given for TSI lines (both high speed and conventional) and classical lines. For classical lines, values, where given, are for the existing European networks. Furthermore the maximum values that are specified are applicable to the foreseen developments of the infrastructure of the Trans European rail networks. The following electric traction systems are within scope: –   railways; –   guided mass transport systems that are integrated with railways; –   material transport systems that are integrated with railways. This European Standard does not apply retrospectively to rolling stock already in service.  Information is given on electrification parameters such as to enable train operating companies to confirm, after consultation with the rolling stock manufacturers, that there will be no consequential disturbance on the electrification system.

Simulation techniques are used to assess the dynamic interaction between overhead contact lines and pantographs, as part of the prediction of current collection quality. This document specifies functional requirements for the validation of such simulation methods to ensure confidence in, and mutual acceptance of the results of the simulations.

- comparison with line test measurements, and the characteristics of those line tests;
- validation of pantograph models;
- comparison between different simulation methods;
- limits of application of validated methods to assessments of pantographs and overhead contact lines.
This document applies to the current collection from an overhead contact line by pantographs mounted on railway vehicles. It does not apply to trolley bus systems.

For the purpose of demonstrating compatibility between rolling stock and axle counter detectors, this document defines the interference limits and evaluation methods to verify rolling stock emissions. Wheel sensors and crossing loops are not covered by this document.
This document gives recommended individual limits to be applied to establish compatibility between RST and all selected types of axle counter detectors, including any covered by national standards.
The list of selected types of axle counters and their limits for compatibility are drawn on the basis of established performance criteria. It is expected that the trend for newly signalled interoperable lines will be fitted with types that meet the compatibility limits published in the TSI CCS Interfaces Document (ERA/ERTMS/033281).
To ensure adequate operational availability, it is essential that the rolling stock complies with the defined limits; otherwise, the established availability of the valid output function of axle counter detectors may be compromised.
NOTE   The influences from metal parts or inductively coupled resonant circuits on the vehicle, eddy current brakes or magnetic brakes, are not covered by this document but are considered on the basis of national technical specifications.
For wheel sensors and wheel detectors in other applications than axle counters but utilizing the same rail sensors and detectors, transient and continuous interference can be considered as equivalent to axle counter detectors or axle counter sensors.

This International Standard specifies general criteria to demonstrate by testing that newly
constructed complete railway vehicles conform with standards or other normative documents.
This International Standard, as a whole or in part, applies to all railway vehicles except
special purpose vehicles such as track-laying machines, ballast cleaners and personnel
carriers. The extent of application of the standard for particular vehicles will be specifically
mentioned in the contract, to take account, where necessary, of any legislative requirements.
NOTE 1 The parts of the standard which are applicable will depend on the type of vehicle (e.g. passenger, freight,
powered trailer, etc.).
NOTE 2 The scope of this standard excludes railbound and road/rail vehicles for construction and maintenance of
railway infrastructure.
NOTE 3 This standard does not deal with tests carried out on components or equipment before fitting to the
vehicle.
In so far as this International Standard is applicable, it may be used for the following:
– generator sets mounted on a vehicle provided for auxiliary purposes;
– electrical transmission used on trolley buses or similar vehicles;
– control and auxiliary equipment of vehicles with non-electrical propulsion systems;
– vehicles guided, supported or electrically propelled by systems which do not use the
adhesion between wheel and rail.
NOTE 4 Specific technical requirements apply to vehicles which operate on the railways in the European Union.
The source of those requirements is given in Annex B. Where a European requirement applies to a given clause, a
note has been inserted at the end of the clause
