Abstract

This document specifies requirements for roofing and cladding products used for assembly into coverings for wall claddings, linings and pitched roofs, made from aluminium sheet with or without additional surface treatment (organic coating or anodising).
This document establishes the general characteristics, the definitions and the labelling of the products, together with requirements for the materials from which the products can be manufactured. It is intended to be used either by manufacturers to ensure that their products comply with the requirements or by purchasers to verify that the products comply before they are despatched from the factory. This document specifies the requirements for products which enable them to meet all normal service conditions. Products can be prefabricated or semi-formed products as well as strip, coil and sheet for on-site-formed applications (e.g. standing seam roofs).
This document is applicable to all discontinuously laid and fully supported roofing and cladding products made of aluminium sheets.
This document does not specify requirements for supporting construction, design of roof system and execution of connections and flashings.
This document does not apply to self-supporting aluminium sheets that are covered by EN 508 2.

SIST EN 507:2026 is the Slovenian standard for roofing and cladding products from aluminium sheet with fully supported installation. It specifies the product requirements, the material options, and the marking, packaging, sampling and test approach used to check conformity.

The standard is intended for manufacturers checking their products and for purchasers verifying products before dispatch. In practice, it tells you what aluminium sheet products may be used for wall claddings, linings and pitched roofs, and how they are identified and controlled.

What does SIST EN 507:2026 specify?

SIST EN 507:2026 covers discontinuously laid, fully supported roofing and cladding products made from aluminium sheet, with or without organic coating or anodising. It applies to prefabricated and semi-formed products, as well as strip, coil and sheet for on-site forming such as standing seam roofs.

The standard is organized into scope, normative references, terms and definitions, requirements, sampling and test methods, designation, and marking, labelling and packaging. It also includes a bibliography that points to EN ISO 9001 and EN 508-2.

What are the key requirements of SIST EN 507:2026?

Materials and conformity

Clause 4 requires the product to be made from materials that comply with the material requirements in Clause 4.2. The material supplier is responsible for the tests needed to show compliance, and inspection documents to EN 10204 can be requested. In practice, this means the aluminium source and coating documentation matter as much as the finished product.

Quality control

Clause 4.1 requires a permanent quality control system. The standard says this should be based on EN ISO 9001. For manufacturers, this means ongoing process control, not just one-off testing.

Aluminium alloys and temper

Clause 4.2.1 identifies aluminium alloys suitable for use without further proof when they meet the relevant material standard values. Alloy and temper have to be chosen to provide corrosion resistance, strength and formability, and the exact choice is agreed when ordering. The 2026 edition extends the list of suitable alloys compared with EN 507:2019.

Organic coatings and anodising

Clause 4.2.2 covers factory-applied organic coatings such as acrylic, polyester, PVDF, PUR and others listed in Table 2. Clause 4.2.3 allows anodised surfaces, with performance and test methods to EN ISO 7599. For buyers, this means finish type is part of the technical specification, not only appearance.

Product dimensions and minimum thickness

Clause 4.3.1 requires flat products to meet EN 485-4 for dimensions and tolerances. It also gives minimum nominal thickness values for fully supported coverings, clips and line-fixing strips. For formed products, Clause 4.3.2 sets a recommended minimum nominal thickness and says forming tolerances are agreed at ordering if not calculated or tested for service conditions.

Sampling, testing and inspection documents

Clause 5 links flat-product sampling and test methods to EN 1396 for organically coated products and EN 485-1 for uncoated or anodised products. For formed products, one complete piece can form the test unit for dimensional tolerances, and a test series is run per test unit. The ordered inspection document type and test type have to be stated.

Designation, marking and packaging

Clause 6 requires designation to identify the product type, the material designation if applicable, and EN 507. Clause 7 requires marking on each pack, coil or bundle, including manufacturer identification, product designation, order number, ordered dimensions and quantity, and gross mass. Packaging, transport and storage conditions are agreed at ordering and should protect the product from deformation and moisture damage.

What terms does SIST EN 507:2026 define?

  • fully supported - installation where the flat underside of the product is supported by continuous construction.
  • temper - the material condition created by processing such as mechanical treatment or heat treatment.
  • organic coated aluminium sheet - aluminium sheet with painted, laminated or coil-coated organic protection on one or both sides.
  • anodised aluminium sheet - aluminium with an anodic oxide coating formed by electrolytic oxidation.
  • EN AW - the alloy designation format used for the aluminium sheet alloys listed in the standard.
  • PVDF - the abbreviation for polyvinylidene fluoride paint coating, one of the factory-applied coating types.

Who uses SIST EN 507:2026?

Manufacturers use SIST EN 507:2026 to select suitable alloys, coatings and thicknesses, set up quality control, and prepare designation and marking. Purchasers use it to check that delivered products match the ordered material, finish, dimensions and inspection documents.

It is relevant to people working with roofing and wall cladding products made from aluminium sheet, especially for pitched roofs, linings, standing seam applications and other fully supported installations.

What changed in SIST EN 507:2026 from the previous edition?

SIST EN 507:2026 supersedes EN 507:2019. The stated technical change is that the list of aluminium alloys suitable for roofing and cladding products has been extended, with the change located in Clause 4.2.1.

Which standards are used with SIST EN 507:2026?

  • EN 485-1 - gives inspection and delivery conditions for aluminium sheet, strip and plate, and is used for uncoated and anodised flat products.
  • EN 485-2 - gives mechanical properties for aluminium sheet, strip and plate, and is used for uncoated and anodised products.
  • EN 485-4 - gives shape and dimensional tolerances for cold-rolled products.
  • EN 1396 - gives specifications for coil-coated aluminium sheet and strip, including performance and test methods for organically coated products.
  • EN 10204 - defines types of inspection documents.
  • EN ISO 7599 - gives general specifications for anodic oxidation coatings on aluminium.
  • EN 508-2 - is the companion part for self-supporting aluminium sheet products and is referenced for comparison and for wind-load verification of some formed products.

What does the SIST EN 507:2026 document contain?

The document includes a framework note showing where fully supported aluminium products sit among metal-sheet roofing and cladding standards. It also contains Table 1 with suitable aluminium alloys and Table 2 with factory-applied coating types.

Clause 4 provides the core material and product requirements, while Clause 5 sets out sampling and testing for flat and formed products. Clause 6 defines how products are designated, and Clause 7 covers marking, labelling, packaging, transport, storage and handling.

In this document the performance of the product has been defined in terms of a number of type tests.
The performance of a roof or cladding constructed with these products depends not only on the
properties of the product as it is required by this document, but also on the design, construction and
performance of the roof or the cladding as a whole in relation to the environment and conditions of use.
Metallic coated aluminium sheet can be easily fabricated. It can be sheared, punched, pressed, drawn,
folded, roll-formed without difficulty within the given limits of the properties listed in the respective
material specifications.
Coil coated sheet can be fabricated like metallic coated aluminium sheet in most applications, but
minimum bend radius, design of forming tools, process temperature etc are chosen according to material
properties.
