Overview

kSIST FprEN 4500-006:2026 is part of the Aerospace series of European standards, focusing on metallic materials used in aerospace applications. Developed by SIS (Slovenian Institute for Standardization) and established under the ASD-STAN Technical Committee, Part 006 of the EN 4500 series specifies the specific rules for drafting and presenting standards for filler metals used in brazing. This document addresses the requirements and conventions necessary to ensure clarity, consistency, and interoperability in aerospace material standards, especially regarding filler metals vital for high-performance brazed joints.

The EN 4500-006 standard is essential for manufacturers, suppliers, standardization bodies, and technical writers drafting aerospace materials standards, as it defines structured rules for content, terminology, and presentation in relation to brazing filler metals.

Key Topics

  • Scope and Structure: Outlines the specific details required in standards for filler metals intended for aerospace brazing applications.
  • Terminology: Ensures standard definitions drawn from referenced documents (EN 4259, EN 4500-001) are consistently applied across documents.
  • Drafting Rules: Sets out detailed rules for:
    • Material designations
    • Chemical composition presentation order
    • Melting methods (e.g., air melted, vacuum melted)
    • Product forms (foil, powder, wire, paste, tape, etc.) and their specific processing descriptors
    • Methods of production and further intended processing
    • Specifying technical and dimensional standards, delivery condition codes, and typical uses
  • Table of Requirements: Establishes a structured, tabular approach (Table 1) to organize all key data: material, process, product characteristics, and qualification details.
  • Annex Guidance: Provides templates and examples on how to properly fill out each section, including title, scope, and the key table.

Applications

This standard delivers practical value in the following areas:

  • Aerospace Material Standards Development: Used by organizations drafting or updating filler metal standards for brazing in aerospace designs. It ensures new standards align with best practice for clarity, completeness, and compliance.
  • Supplier and Manufacturer Documentation: Ensures technical and quality documentation for aerospace filler metals adheres to accepted European conventions, supporting clear communication, procurement, and regulatory compliance.
  • Quality Assurance & Certification: Provides a consistent framework for marking, product qualification, and dimensional inspection, facilitating robust quality management and auditing processes.
  • Training & Technical Communication: Useful for technical writers, engineers, and trainers in aerospace sectors, clarifying how to organize and present data related to brazing filler metals.
  • Reference for Related Standards: Supports harmonization with related standards, making it easier to incorporate new technologies or material variants.

Related Standards

To ensure comprehensive coverage and compatibility, kSIST FprEN 4500-006:2026 should be used alongside these key documents:

  • EN 4258: Aerospace series - Metallic materials - General organization of standardization - Links between types of European standards and their use
  • EN 4500-001: General rules for drafting and presentation of material standards in the aerospace sector
  • EN 4259: Aerospace series - Metallic materials - Definition of general terms
  • EN 2043: General requirements for semi-finished product qualification (excluding forgings and castings)
  • EN 3875: Technical specification for metallic filler metals for brazing
  • EN 4500-002 to EN 4500-005: Related parts for rules on aluminium, magnesium, heat-resisting alloys, titanium alloys, and steels

Summary

kSIST FprEN 4500-006:2026 plays a critical role in ensuring that material standards for filler metals and brazing in aerospace applications are drafted and presented consistently. By adhering to these rules, industry professionals benefit from improved standardization, efficiency, and compliance in developing and using metallic materials for aerospace construction and maintenance.

Introduction
This document is part of the series of EN metallic material standards for aerospace applications. The
general organization of this series is described in EN 4258.
The EN 4500 series (Aerospace series — Metallic materials — Rules for drafting and presentation of
material standards) is composed by the following documents:
— General rules EN 4500-001;
— Specific rules for aluminium, aluminium alloys and EN 4500-002;
magnesium alloys
— Specific rules for heat-resisting alloys EN 4500-003;
— Specific rules for titanium and titanium alloys EN 4500-004;
— Specific rules for steels EN 4500-005;
— Specific rules for filler metals for welding EN 4500-002 to EN 4500-005;
— Specific rules for filler metals for brazing EN 4500-006.
Basis for the drafting of all European standards is CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations — Part 3:
Principles and rules for the structure and drafting of CEN and CENELEC documents.
