General Information
This document specifies a method of automated colour profile distribution to large format inkjet printers. This document applies to digital colour printers and their printer controllers for which ICC colour management is necessary or desired. This document also applies to the print settings profile providers. The extent of automation covered includes the printer controller acquiring information about the overall situation, connecting to a print settings profile provider on the Internet, determining the best possible profile to download (if it exists), and downloading and installation of the profile. This document covers general concepts and procedures and does not go into a level of detail necessary to establish syntactic or semantic interoperability. This document covers ICC version 4 output profiles as specified by ISO 15076-1, but does not cover device link profiles.

The ISO/IEC 11160 series deals with different classes of printers, such as class 3 and class 4 printers shown in Table C.1 of (Annex C). Elements for classification of printers is given in Annex A. ISO/IEC 18050:2006 specifies two methodologies for the measurement of specific print quality attributes of two-dimensional bar code symbols printed within the requirements of Digital Postage Marks. One of these methodologies is applicable to multi-row bar code symbologies and the other to two-dimensional matrix symbologies. ISO/IEC 18050:2006 defines methods for grading print quality attributes and deriving an overall assessment of symbol quality. In addition, it gives information on possible causes of deviation from optimum grades so as to assist users and postal operators in taking appropriate corrective action. ISO/IEC 18050:2006 applies only to those two-dimensional symbologies for which a reference decode algorithm has been defined, and provides an indicative read rate for limiting mean parameter values. A situation in which a commercial supplier requires a neutral benchmark to demonstrate and communicate the quality, safety and performance of equipment that contains reused components and to demonstrate the environmental responsibility of the supplier. Situations in which consumers require a neutral benchmark to identify or distinguish environmentally responsible products. ISO/IEC 24700:2004 reflects the world's current approaches that yield products from many manufacturing processes including the reuse of components, with the equipment's warranties and guarantees playing an important role in market acceptance. In today's procurement processes, technical equipment definitions used by regulators must be addressed and, in that sense, ISO/IEC 24700:2004 will be useful in procurement and in the trade facilitation area, to communicate with regulators. ISO/IEC 24700:2004 specifically addresses office equipment. However, in the future it may provide valuable directions for other industries and industrial sectors.

This International Standard applies to implementation and application of test charts for colour copying machines. This International Standard serves for testing of reproduction properties of colour copying machines, in order to help to recognize the possibilities and limits of various machines and for their comparison. To use this International Standard, make copies of at least two test charts (one achromatic and one chromatic) out of eight test charts using the device to be tested. The resulting copies shall be examined visually and may be compared with the original test charts. Objective measurements may be made for these copies. Eight ISO-test charts, four in halftone (offset reproduction) and four in continuous tone (photographic reproduction), belonging to this International Standard may be produced by different manufacturers. This International Standard specifies a method for measuring the throughput of class 1 and class 2 printers, as defined in ISO/IEC 11160-1. This International Standard specifies three different test patterns: · a standard business letter; · a spreadsheet; · a graphic pattern. In addition, this International Standard defines a method for a performance test and one for an endurance test. These tests are intended to measure only the printer throughput for documents in the same class as the test patterns and not to evaluate any other printer features such as character shaping, print compressions, network/controller performance, colour, etc. The method is relevant to class 1 and class 2 printer types (e.g. dot matrix, daisy wheel, ink jet, thermal transfer printers) and to all configurations (e.g. tractor feed, cut sheet feed, 80-column and over 132-column print width, etc.). It is not the most suitable for comparing performance of other classes of printing devices such as high-speed page-oriented printers or color printers. This method is intended for use by printer manufacturers and test houses so that a common form of test result presentation shall be obtained. It will also enable a user to make a quick and easy comparison of the printing throughput of different printers.

This International Standard is intended to facilitate user selection of an image scanner. This International Standard specifies the minimum information that shall be included by manufacturers in their specification sheets for scanners. This International Standard is made for the average end user. For this reason it does not describe all specifications of scanners with special features such as double sided scanning or high speed. By insuring consistency of specification of scanner product information, this International Standard enables the end user to make meaningful comparisons of machine functionality and performance characteristics. The most meaningful parameters of function and performance are specified and defined, and measures of performance are provided. This International Standard further applies to types of scanners which are most prevalent in use, including parameters for a scanning engine (an optomechanical physical device) and basic image processing only (those processes include digital data output with encoded gray scale, or unencoded single bit plus halftone data). It does not require specification of advanced application processing such as OCR, translation, vector conversion, etc. Because scanners use both software and/or hardware to achieve some scanner functions and controls, the standard contains some entries related to software even though the standard is primarily for scanner hardware. The manufacturer, at his option, may include description of such additional functionality which may be provided. This standard also does not consider image quality, nor does it provide or use related test targets.

The scope of ISO/IEC 24711:2015 is limited to evaluation of ink cartridge page yield for ink-containing cartridges (i.e. integrated ink cartridges and ink cartridges without integrated printheads) for colour inkjet print systems. ISO/IEC 24711:2015 can also be applied to the printer component of any multifunctional device that has a digital input printing path, including multi-function devices that contain inkjet printer components. Both liquid and solid ink products can be tested using ISO/IEC 24711:2015. ISO/IEC 24711:2015 is only intended for the measurement of ink cartridge page yield when printing on plain paper. No other claims can be made from this testing regarding quality, reliability, etc. It can be used to measure the yield of any cartridge that is used in a significant amount during the printing of the test suite defined in ISO/IEC 24712. It is not for use with printers whose minimum printable size is equal to or greater than A3 or for printers designed or configured to print photos (for example, maximum printable size less than A4 or a printer configuration intended for photo-only printing). In addition, it only applies to drop-on-demand printing systems.

ISO/IEC 24734:2014 includes test files, test setup procedure, test runtime procedure, and the reporting requirements for the digital printing productivity measurements. ISO/IEC 24734:2014 is not intended to be used for devices which are not able to print on a media size of A4/8.5"x11" or for devices, which are not able to collate multiple copies of a print. ISO/IEC 24734:2014 is not intended to replace a manufacturer's rated speeds. The productivity of a digital printing device depends on factors other than the printing device itself. These include, but are not limited to, computer manufacturer and model, central processor type and speed, RAM and hard disk memory capacity and speed, software driver, version of the application being used, operating system, and the type and speed of the communication path from computer to printing device, etc. Because of this, in order to make useful and accurate direct comparisons of printing productivity with ISO/IEC 24734:2014, the same computer system hardware and software have to be used for measuring the printing devices, if, for the purpose of being directly compared one to another. For every printing productivity measurement, the basic specifications of the computer hardware and software have to be included with the results of the printing productivity measurement.
