2019/2017 - COMMISSION DELEGATED REGULATION (EU) 2019/2017 of 11 March 2019 supplementing Regulation (EU) 2017/1369 of the European Parliament and of the Council with regard to energy labelling of household dishwashers and repealing Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) No 1059/2010

IEC 60436:2025 applies to electric dishwashers for household and similar use that are supplied with hot and/or cold water. The object of this document is to state and define the principal performance characteristics of electric dishwashers for household and similar use and to describe the standard methods of measuring these characteristics. This document is concerned neither with safety nor with minimum performance requirements.
This fifth edition cancels and replaces the fourth edition published in 2015, and Amendment 1:2020. This edition constitutes a technical revision.
This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
a) Implementation of a new reference machine, which better reflects modern dishwasher energy and water saving technologies. Its ability to function as a reference machine for the cleaning assessment was assessed in a Round Robin Test.
b) Implementation of the new reference detergent type E, which better reflects market detergents formulations. It includes upgraded enzymes and a lower content of silicates to reduce the alkalinity which simplifies the world wide transportation by avoiding dangerous goods labelling and therefore improves the usage all over the world.
c) Implementation of an alignment factor for the cleaning performance assessment as proposed in a scientific study done by an university to align test results of the previous version to the new version of this document with the new reference system described above.
d) Introduction of replacements and alternatives for the pan and knives as the production of the current ones was stopped.
e) Improvement of the room temperature control by a temperature measurement inside the dishwasher directly prior to the start of the test programme.
f) Update of the weight of different load items and the specified ranges to anneal the requirements in the document to the actual weight of the items.
g) Introduction of an updated method to assess low power modes providing a step-by-step measurement description and including new modes, e.g. network standby which are of increased importance for dishwasher offering additional services via internet connection. Additionally, reactions to different interactions with the appliance can be assessed in a better way and learnings of Round Robin Test are included.
h) Inclusion of additional method for dishwasher testing which allows the assessment of variations of dishwasher units from one model.
i) New requirements for the loading and handling instructions for tests institutes.
j) Implementation of testing methodology for multi-compartment dishwashers.
k) Improvement of ballast soil preparation process in Annex V.

The object is to state and define the principal performance characteristics of electric dishwashers for household and similar use and to describe the standard methods of measuring these characteristics. This edition constitutes a technical revision and includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
a) Addition of a specification of the reference dishwasher G1222, addition of the microwave oven 752C, inclusion of standby/low power modes and updated cutlery and tableware items.
b) Combined cleaning and drying: combining the cleaning and drying performance evaluations into one test, along with the energy and water consumption evaluation, prevents an opportunity for circumvention if tests were performed separately. A dishwasher can detect whether soil is present (cleaning evaluation) or not (drying evaluation) and adjust the cycle to favour performance; combining the tests addresses this.
c) New dish load items: new dish load items were incorporated which reflect consumer use. New items are: stainless pots, coffee mugs, melamine plastic items, and glass bowl. The new load items provide different shapes which challenge a dishwasher water spray patterns and provide additional surfaces for soil removal assessment.
d) Detergent: a new detergent "D" is specified which mirrors current tablet formulations available on the market. Detergent type D is phosphate free, with percarbonate instead of perborate bleach and more active enzymes.
e) Repeatability and reproducibility improvements.
f) Addition of annexes for the evaluation of soil sensing programmes, rinsing performance, dishwasher filtration and of an annex on the inlet water temperature influence on energy consumption.

IEC 60704-2-3:2017 is intended to be used in conjunction with the third edition (2010) of IEC 60704-1, Household and similar electrical appliances - Test code for the determination of airborne acoustical noise - Part 1: General requirements.
The relevant text of Part 1 as amended by this standard establishes the test code for dishwashers.
This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
a) it doesn’t contain the description of an appropriate test enclosure because the test enclosure has been incorporated in  IEC 60704-1:2010, Annex B;
b) the values of standard deviations of sound power levels determined according to this part are given in Clause 1;
c) to prevent an appliance being programmed to recognize the test cycles, and reacting specifically to them, in this new edition an artificial soil is used in addition to the unsoiled load and the rinse aid container has to be filled. This artificial soil successive may build up a film on the load. Therefore, detergent also has to be used. An initial test has shown that no foam is to be expected.
This publication is to be read in conjunction with IEC 60704-1:2010.

1.1   Equipment in the scope of this standard
This European Standard specifies methods of measurement of electrical power consumption in networked standby and the reporting of the results for edge equipment.
Power consumption in standby (other than networked standby) is covered by EN 50564, including the input voltage range.
This European Standard also provides a method to test power management and whether it is possible to deactivate wireless network connection(s).
NOTE 1   This standard has been written in particular to support Commission Regulation (EU) No 801/2013 for the measurement of energy consumption in networked standby. This standard applies to electrical products with a rated input voltage of 230 V a.c. for single phase products and 400 V a.c. for three phase products.
NOTE 2   The measurement of energy consumption and performance of products during intended use are generally specified in product standards and are not covered by this standard.
NOTE 3   The term "products" in this standard includes household appliances or information technology products, consumer electronics, audio, video and multimedia systems; however the measurement methodology could be applied to other products.
Where this standard is referenced by more specific standards or procedures, these should define and name the relevant conditions to which this test procedure is applied.
1.2   Equipment not in the scope of this standard
This European Standard does not apply to the measurement of electrical power consumption in networked standby for interconnecting equipment.
NOTE   Measurement of electrical power consumption in networked standby for interconnecting equipment is the subject of ETSI standard EN 303 423 "Environmental Engineering (EE) - Electrical and electronic household and office equipment; Measurement of networked standby power consumption for interconnecting equipment".

IEC 60705:2010 applies to microwave ovens for household use. It also applies to combination microwave ovens. This standard defines the main performance characteristics of household microwave ovens which are of interest to the user, and it specifies methods for measuring these characteristics. This fourth edition cancels and replaces the third edition published in 1999, its amendment 1 (2004) and its amendment 2 (2006), and constitutes a technical revision. The main changes from the previous edition are as follows:  - the definition of rounding is given in 3.5;  - the usable volume and the overall volume are respectively determined in 7.2 and 7.3.

IEC 60734:2012 describes the preparation of four types of water of different hardness, conductivity and alkalinity, intended to be used for testing the performance of household appliances such as washing machines, dishwashers, tumble dryers, steam irons etc. It defines the characteristics of these waters and establishes various methods to be used for obtaining them. It also includes specifications for required measurements.

IEC 62301:2011 specifies methods of measurement of electrical power consumption in standby mode(s) and other low power modes (off mode and network mode), as applicable. It is applicable to electrical products with a rated input voltage or voltage range that lies wholly or partly in the range 100 V a.c. to 250 V a.c. for single phase products and 130 V a.c. to 480 V a.c. for other products. The objective of this standard is to provide a method of test to determine the power consumption of a range of products in relevant low power modes (see 3.4), generally where the product is not in active mode (i.e. not performing a primary function). This standard does not specify safety requirements. It does not specify minimum performance requirements nor does it set maximum limits on power or energy consumption. This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition published in 2005 and constitutes a technical revision. The main changes from the previous edition are as follows:  - greater detail in set-up procedures and introduction of stability requirements for all measurement methods to ensure that results are as representative as possible;  - refinement of measurement uncertainty requirements for power measuring instruments, especially for more difficult loads with high crest factor and/or low power factor;  - updated guidance on product configuration, instrumentation and calculation of measurement uncertainty;  - inclusion of definitions for low power modes as requested by TC59 and use of these new definitions and more rigorous terminology throughout the standard;  - inclusion of specific test conditions where power consumption is affected by ambient illumination.

A bulk sample is reduced by a mechanical process until a reduced sample is obtained. The reduced sample may be used for the following purposes: a) the preparation of a final sample or a laboratory sample of mass greater than 250 g from a blended bulk sample of mass greater than 500 g; b) the preparation of several equivalent laboratory samples and/or reference samples and/or storage samples, each of a mass greater than 250 g, from a final sample; c) the preparation of a test sample from a loboratory sample.

These particular requirements apply to single unit electric dishwashers for household and similar use, with or without automatic programme control, for cold and/or warm water supply, for detachable or permanent connection to water supply or sewage systems, intended for placing on the floor against a wall, for building-in or placing under a counter, a kitchen worktop or under a sink, for wall-mounting or on a counter.
