Railway applications - General terms and definitions

This document provides terms and definitions for rail networks and rail vehicles guided by track and wheels, both made of steel and/or other materials.
This includes heavy rail and urban rail systems.
This document is applicable as a reference for future European Standards and the revision of existing standards and represents a set of general technical terms and definitions.
This document does not apply to specific applications such as:
-   track construction and maintenance machines not travelling on rails;
-   road-rail machines when not travelling on rails;
-   magnetic levitation transport networks and vehicles;
-   guided busways and guided busses;
-   non-public rail networks and vehicles, e.g. mine rail systems;
-   rail networks and vehicles exclusively for leisure, historical and tourist purposes, e.g. mountain-, field-, park-, cable rail systems, funiculars and theme park rides;
-   trolley busses.
Not in the scope are terms and definitions related to:
-   control command and signalling,
-   operation,
-   geographical aspects.

Bahnanwendungen - Allgemeine Begriffe

Diese Europäische Norm stellt Begriffe für Schienenver¬kehrsnetze und Schienenfahrzeuge bereit, die von Gleis und Rädern geführt werden, wobei beide aus Stahl und/oder anderen Werkstoffen bestehen.
Dies schließt Systeme der Vollbahn und der städtischen Schienenbahnen ein.
Diese Europäische Norm ist anwend¬bar als Referenz für künftige Europäische Normen und für die Revision bestehender Normen und bildet einen Satz technischer Begriffe und Definitionen ab.
Diese Europäische Norm gilt nicht für spezifi-sche Anwendungen wie
-   Gleisbau- und Instandhaltungsmaschi¬nen, wenn sie nicht auf Schienen laufen;
-   Zweiwegefahrzeuge, wenn sie nicht auf Schienen laufen;
-   Magnetschwebebahnen und deren Fahrzeuge;
-   Spurbustrassen und spurgeführte Busse;
-   nichtöffentliche Bahnnetze und Fahrzeuge, z. B. Grubenbahnen;
-   Bahnnetze und Fahrzeuge ausschließlich für Freizeit und/oder historische und touristische Zwecke, z. B. Berg-, Feld-, Park , Seil-, Standseilbahnen und Fahrgeschäfte;
-   Oberleitungsbusse.
Nicht im Anwendungsbereich enthalten sind Begriffe bezüglich
-   Zugsteuerung, Zugsicherung und Signal-gebung,
-   Betrieb,
-   geografische Aspekte.

La présente Norme Européenne fournit des termes et définitions pour les réseaux et les véhicules ferroviaires guidés par rails et roues en acier et/ou autres matériaux.
Cela comprend les systèmes ferroviaires lourds et urbains.
La présente Norme Européenne est applicable comme référence pour de futures Normes Européennes et la révision de Normes existantes et représente un ensemble de termes techniques généraux et de défini¬tions.
La présente Norme Européenne ne s’applique pas à des applications spécifiques comme les :
-   engins de construction et de maintenance ne circulant pas sur les rails ;
-   engins rail-route lorsqu’ils ne circulent pas sur les rails ;
-   systèmes de transport et véhicules à lévi¬tation magnétique ;
-   réseaux bus guidés et bus guidés;
-   réseaux ferroviaires non ouverts au public et véhicules, par exemple les réseaux ferroviaires miniers;
-   réseaux et véhicules ferroviaires dédiés aux activités de loisir, historiques et touristiques, par exemple les systèmes ferroviaires à traction par câble (montagne, parc, etc.), funiculaires et les véhicules utilisés dans les parcs d'attraction;
-   trolleys.
