Fitness centres - Requirements for centre amenities and operation - Operational and managerial requirements

This document for fitness centres specifies minimum requirements for structured exercise and physical activity. This includes requirements for equipment and any associated facilities, if present, together with the operational and managerial procedures for delivering the service.
This European Standard is applicable to all publically accessible fitness centres where diverse structured exercise and/or physical activity for groups and/or individuals are delivered in a safe and controlled environment .
NOTE   In the event that the fitness centre is designed to be accessible to people with disability and/or impairments, attention is drawn to any relevant national guidelines.
This European Standard excludes any permanently installed outdoor fitness equipment according to EN 16630 or stationary exercise equipment for medical use according to directive 93/42/EWG. ((To be discussed later after clarification with committee for training equipment and outdoor fitness equipment.))
Additional services such as spa services, child care, tanning beds, swimming pools, nutritional counselling, facilities for racket sports etc. are not included in this part. ((To be discussed whether to remove this paragraph.))

Fitness-Studio - Anforderungen an Studioausstattung und -betrieb - Operative und betriebliche Anforderungen

Dieses Dokument legt die Mindestanforderungen für das Anbieten körperlicher Aktivitäten in Fitness-Studios fest. Dies umfasst die operativen und betrieblichen Verfahren für das Angebot und die Bereitstellung der Dienstleistung zusammen mit den Anforderungen für die Auswahl und die Aufstellung der Ausrüstung sowie sämtlicher zugehöriger Einrichtungen, falls diese vorhanden sind.
Dieses Dokument ist anzuwenden für alle öffentlich zugänglichen Fitness-Studios, in denen allen Kunden körperliche Aktivitäten für Gruppen und/oder Einzelpersonen angeboten werden, um eine sichere und geregelte Umgebung zu bieten.
Dieses Dokument ist nicht anzuwenden für Fitness-Studios bei denen die körperliche Aktivität ausschließlich ein sekundäres Geschäft darstellt.
ANMERKUNG   Falls das Fitness-Studio entworfen wurde, um für besondere Personengruppen (z. B. Personen mit Behinderung und/oder Beeinträchtigungen, Minderjährige) zugänglich zu sein, wird auf relevante nationale Richtlinien verwiesen.

Le présent document spécifie les exigences minimales pour l’offre d’activités physiques dans les clubs de fitness, ce qui comprend les procédures opérationnelles et fonctionnelles pour l’offre et la prestation du service de même que les exigences de sélection et de positionnement des équipements ainsi que des installations associées, le cas échéant.
Le présent document est applicable à tous les clubs de fitness accessibles au public et qui proposent à tous leurs usagers des activités physiques collectives ou individuelles dans le souci d’offrir un environnement sécurisé et maîtrisé.
Le présent document ne couvre pas les clubs de fitness pour lesquels les activités physiques constituent exclusivement une activité secondaire.

Ta dokument za centre telesne vadbe določa minimalne zahteve za strukturirano vadbo in telesno aktivnost. To vključuje zahteve za opremo in vse povezane objekte, če obstajajo, skupaj s postopki za delovanje in vodenje storitev v centru.
Ta evropski standard se uporablja za vse javno dostopne centre telesne vadbe, kjer se v varnem in nadzorovanem okolju izvaja različna strukturirana vadba in/ali telesne aktivnosti za skupine in/ali posameznike.
OPOMBA:   Če je center telesne vadbe zasnovan tako, da je dostopen osebam z invalidnostjo in/ali prizadetostjo, je treba upoštevati tudi ustrezne nacionalne smernice.
Ta evropski standard izključuje vso stalno nameščeno opremo za telesno vadbo na prostem v skladu s standardom EN 16630 ali stacionarno opremo za vadbo v medicinske namene v skladu z direktivo 93/42/EWG. ((Bo še predmet pogovora v odboru za vadbeno opremo in opremo za telesno vadbo na prostem.))

This document (EN 17229:2019) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 136 “Sports,
playground and other recreational facilities and equipment”, the secretariat of which is held by DIN.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an
identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by December 2019, and conflicting national standards
shall be withdrawn at the latest by December 2019.

Risk assessment process (see Annex D) is the basis for the requirements in this document.
1 Scope
This document specifies minimum requirements for the provision of physical activity in fitness centres.
This includes the operational and managerial procedures for offering and delivering the service
together with requirements for selection and positioning of equipment as well as any associated
facilities if present.
This document is applicable to all publicly accessible fitness centres where physical activity for groups
and/or individuals is delivered to all of its users in order to provide a safe and controlled environment.
This document does not cover fitness centres where physical activity is exclusively secondary business.
NOTE In the event that the fitness centre is designed to be accessible to special populations (e.g. people with
disability and/or impairments, minors), attention is drawn to any relevant national guidelines.

3 Terms and definitions

4 Operational and managerial requirements
4.1 Contract/contractual obligations
The fitness centre shall provide a contract of the terms and conditions and code of conduct (see
Annex C) to the user of the fitness centre's facilities and services. This shall include at least:
a) contract term;
b) payment conditions;
c) extension of term;
d) termination;
e) withdrawal.
NOTE 1 In addition, it can, for example contain dress code, safety and Europe Active Anti-Doping Code of
Conduct.
NOTE 2 See national legislation and Directive 2011/83/EU.
4.2 User care
4.2.1 General
The fitness centre shall provide information to all users on how to safely use its facility and services.
4.2.2 User relations
The fitness centre shall provide means of communication to the user for questions, concerns,
complaints and for information for the safe use of the equipment and/or facility.
The fitness centre shall have a procedure on how to deal with users concerns and complaints.
