This document (prEN 2955:2024) has been prepared by the Aerospace and Defence Industries
Association of Europe — Standardization (ASD-STAN).
After enquiries and votes carried out in accordance with the rules of this Association, this document has
received the approval of the National Associations and the Official Services of the member countries of
ASD-STAN, prior to its presentation to CEN.
This document is currently submitted to the CEN Enquiry.
This document will supersede EN 2955:1993.
Major element of this revision is the authorization of recycling of material that have been used in flight.

1 Scope
This document specifies the general requirements for recycling, by vacuum remelting or cold hearth
melting, titanium and titanium alloy scrap used for the production of ingots.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.

scrap processor
processor that classifies the scrap and guarantees conformity to the melter's requirements acting in
accordance with the aerospace purchaser’s requirements
Note 1 to entry: scrap processing may be carried out by an independent processor (scrap dealer), by the
melter's processing department or by the purchaser's processing department.

company which manufactures titanium or titanium alloy ingots

body which purchases the products from a manufacturer or a stockist in accordance with the
requirements of the user

massive scrap
scrap with an individual mass specified by the melter requiring 100 % check

non-contaminated scrap
scrap which is free from contamination caused by:
— brazing;
— electrolytic deposits;
— painting;
— coating;
— oxidation caused by heating;
— nitriding;
— machining: broken tools/blades/wheels;
— etc.
