Air conditioners, liquid chilling packages and heat pumps with electrically driven compressors for space heating and cooling - Part 1: Terms and definitions

This part of EN 14511 specifies the terms and definitions for the rating and performance of air and water cooled
air conditioners, liquid chilling packages, air-to-air, water-to-air, air-to-water and water-to-water heat pumps with
electrically driven compressors when used for space heating and/or cooling. This European Standard does not
specifically apply to heat pumps for sanitary hot water, although certain definitions can be applied to these.
This European Standard applies to.
 factory-made units that can be ducted,
 factory-made liquid chilling packages with integral condensers or for use with remote condensers,
 factory-made units of either fixed capacity or variable capacity by any means, and
 air-to-air air conditioners which evaporate the condensate on the condenser side.
Packaged units, single split and multisplit systems are covered by this standard. Single duct and double duct units
are covered by the standard.
In the case of units consisting of several parts, this document applies only to those designed and supplied as a
complete package, except for liquid chilling packages with remote condenser.
This document is primarily intended for water and brine chilling packages but can be used for other liquid subject
to agreement.
The units having their condenser cooled by air and by the evaporation of external additional water are not
covered by this standard, but by EN 15218 related to evaporatively-cooled condenser units.
Installations used for heating and/or cooling of industrial processes are not within the scope of this standard.
NOTE 1 Part load testing of units is dealt with in CEN/TS 14825.
NOTE 2 All the symbols given in this text should be used regardless of the language used.

Diese Europäische Norm legt die Begriffe für die Einstufung und Leistung von Luftkonditionierern, Flüssigkeitskühlsätzen,
Wärmepumpen, die entweder Luft oder Wasser oder Sole als Wärmeträger nutzen, mit elektrisch
angetriebenen Verdichtern für die Raumbeheizung und/oder Kühlung fest. Diese Europäische Norm gilt
nicht speziell für Wärmepumpen zum Erwärmen von Brauchwasser, obwohl bestimmte Definitionen auf diese
angewendet werden können.
Diese Europäische Norm gilt für:
- fabrikmäßig zusammengebaute Geräte, die mit Luftkanalanschlüssen versehen sein können,
- fabrikmäßig zusammengebaute Flüssigkeitskühlsätze, die mit eingebauten Verflüssigern oder mit getrennt
angeordneten Verflüssigern betrieben werden,
- fabrikmäßig zusammengebaute Geräte mit fest eingestellter oder durch beliebige Vorrichtungen zu verändernder
Leistung (variable Leistung), und
- Luft/Luft-Luftkonditionierer, die das Kondensat auf der Verflüssigerseite verdampfen.
Kompaktgeräte, Einzelgeräte in Split-Bauweise und Multi-Split-Systeme fallen unter den Anwendungsbereich
dieser Norm. Geräte mit Ein- und Zweikanal-Systemen werden ebenfalls in dieser Norm behandelt.
Wenn die Geräte aus mehreren Teilen bestehen, gilt diese Europäische Norm mit der Ausnahme von Flüssigkeitskühlsätzen
mit getrennt angeordnetem Verflüssiger nur für Teile, die als vollständige Baueinheit konstruiert
und geliefert werden.
Diese Europäische Norm gilt hauptsächlich für Wasser- und Solekühlsätze, kann jedoch bei Vereinbarung auf
weitere Flüssigkeitskühlsätze angewendet werden.
Geräte, deren Verflüssiger durch Belüftung und durch Verdampfung von zusätzlichem, von außen zugeführtem
Wasser gekühlt wird, werden in dieser Norm nicht behandelt, sind jedoch Gegenstand von EN 15218, die
sich auf verdunstungsgekühlte Verflüssiger bezieht.
Anlagen für die Beheizung und/oder Kühlung industrieller Prozesse fallen nicht in den Anwendungsbereich
dieser Norm.

La présente partie de l'EN 14511 spécifie les termes et définitions relatifs à la détermination des caractéristiques de performance des climatiseurs à condensation par air et à condensation par eau, des groupes refroidisseurs de liquide et des pompes à chaleur air/air, eau/air, air/eau et eau/eau, avec compresseur entraîné par moteur électrique, lorsqu'ils sont utilisés pour le chauffage et/ou la réfrigération des locaux. La présente Norme européenne ne s'applique pas spécifiquement aux pompes à chaleur utilisées pour l'eau chaude sanitaire, bien que certaines définitions puissent leur être applicables.
La présente Norme européenne s'applique :
   aux appareils fabriqués en usine qui peuvent être raccordés ;
   aux groupes refroidisseurs de liquide autonomes fabriqués en usine ou conçus pour être utilisés avec des condenseurs fournis séparément ;
   aux appareils fabriqués en usine de capacité fixe ou variable par tous moyens ; et
   aux climatiseurs air/air qui évaporent les condensats du côté condenseur.
La présente norme couvre les systèmes monoblocs, à deux éléments séparés et multi-split. La présente norme couvre les appareils à simple et à double raccordement.
Dans le cas d'appareils à éléments séparés, le présent document ne s'applique qu'aux appareils conçus et fournis comme un ensemble, sauf pour ce qui concerne les groupes refroidisseurs de liquide avec condenseur séparé.
Le présent document est principalement destiné aux groupes refroidisseurs d'eau et d'eau glycolée mais peut être utilisé, après accord, pour d'autres liquides.

EN 14511-1:2011 (E) 3 Foreword This document (EN 14511-1:2011) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 113 “Heat pumps and air conditioning units”, the secretariat of which is held by AENOR. This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by April 2012, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by April 2012. Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of patent rights. CEN [and/or CENELEC] shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights. This document supersedes EN 14511-1:2007. This document has been prepared under a mandate given to CEN by the European Commission and the European Free Trade Association. EN 14511-1:2011 (E) 4 1 Scope This European Standard specifies the terms and definitions for the rating and performance of air conditioners, liquid chilling packages and heat pumps using either, air, water or brine as heat transfer media, with electrically driven compressors when used for space heating and/or cooling. This European Standard does not apply to heat pumps for domestic hot water, although certain definitions can be applied to these. This European Standard applies to:  factory-made units that can be ducted,  factory-made liquid chilling packages with integral condensers or for use with remote condensers,  factory-made units of either fixed capacity or variable capacity by any means, and  air-to-air air conditioners which can also evaporate the condensate on the condenser side.  factory-made units of either fixed capacity or variable capacity by any means, and
 air-to-air air conditioners which evaporate the condensate on the condenser side.
Packaged units, single split and multisplit systems are covered by this standard. Single duct and double duct units
are covered by the standard.
In the case of units consisting of several parts, this document applies only to those designed and supplied as a
complete package, except for liquid chilling packages with remote condenser.
This document is primarily intended for water and brine chilling packages but can be used for other liquid subject
to agreement.
The units having their condenser cooled by air and by the evaporation of external additional water are not
covered by this standard, but by EN 15218 related to evaporatively-cooled condenser units.
Installations used for heating and/or cooling of industrial processes are not within the scope of this standard.
NOTE 1 Part load testing of units is dealt with in CEN/TS 14825.
NOTE 2 All the symbols given in this text should be used regardless of the language used.
2 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.

air conditioner
encased assembly or assemblies designed as a unit to provide delivery of conditioned air to an enclosed
space (room for instance) or zone
NOTE 1 It includes an electrically operated refrigeration system for cooling and possibly dehumidifying the air.
NOTE 2 It can have means for heating, circulating, cleaning and humidifying the air. If the unit provides heating by
reversing the refrigerating cycle then it is a heat pump.

heat pump
encased assembly or assemblies designed as a unit to provide delivery of heat

factory-made unit designed to cool liquid, using an evaporator, a refrigerant compressor, an integral or remote
condenser and appropriate controls
NOTE It may have means for heating which can be reversing the refrigerating cycle, like a heat pump.

factory-made liquid chilling package designed for the purpose of chilling liquid and recovering of heat

recovery of heat rejected by the unit(s) whose primary control is in the cooling mode by means of either an
additional heat exchanger (e.g. a liquid chiller with an additional condenser) or by transferring the heat through

refrigerant flow)

heat exchanger which is designed to transfer heat to the indoor part of the building or to the indoor hot water

heat recovery heat exchanger
heat exchanger assembly which is designed to transfer heat to the heat recovery medium

heat transfer medium
any medium (water, air, .) used for the transfer of the heat without change of state
