IEC 62232:2025 provides methods for the determination of RF field strength, power density and specific absorption rate (SAR) in the vicinity of base stations (BS) for the purpose of evaluating human exposure. This document: a) considers intentionally radiating BS which transmit on one or more antennas using one or more frequencies in the range 110 MHz to 300 GHz; b) considers the impact of ambient sources on RF exposure at least in the 100 kHz to 300 GHz frequency range; c) specifies the methods to be used for RF exposure evaluation for compliance assessment applications, namely: 1) product compliance – determination of compliance boundary information for a BS product before it is placed on the market; 2) product installation compliance – determination of the total RF exposure levels in accessible areas from a BS product and other relevant sources before the product is put into operation; 3) in-situ RF exposure assessment – measurement of in-situ RF exposure levels in the vicinity of a BS installation after the product has been taken into operation; d) specifies how to perform RF exposure assessment based on the actual maximum approach; e) describes several RF field strength, power density, and SAR measurement and computation methodologies with guidance on their applicability to address both the in-situ evaluation of installed BS and laboratory-based evaluations; f) describes how surveyors establish their specific evaluation procedures appropriate for their evaluation purpose; g) provides guidance on how to report, interpret and compare results from different evaluation methodologies and, where the evaluation purpose requires it, determine a justified decision against a limit value; h) provides methods for the RF exposure assessment of BS using time-varying beam-steering technologies such as new radio (NR) BS using massive multiple input multiple output (MIMO). NOTE 1 Practical implementation case studies are provided as examples in the companion Technical Report IEC TR 62669 [5]. NOTE 2 Although the current BS product types have been specified to operate up to 200 GHz (see, for example, [6] and [7]), the upper frequency of 300 GHz is consistent with applicable exposure limits. NOTE 3 The lower frequency considered for ambient sources, 100 kHz, is derived from ICNIRP-1998 [2] and ICNIRP-2020 [1]. However, some applicable exposure guidelines require ambient fields to be evaluated as low as 3 kHz, e.g. Safety Code 6 [4] and IEEE Std C95.1-2019 [3]. NOTE 4 Specification of appropriate RF exposure mitigation measures such as signage, access control, and training are beyond the scope of this document. It is possible to refer to the applicable regulations or recommended practices on these topics. NOTE 5 While this document is based on the current international consensus about the best engineering practice for assessing the compliance of RF exposure with the applicable exposure limits, it is possible that national regulatory agencies specify different requirements. The entity conducting an RF exposure assessment needs to be aware of the applicable regulations. This fourth edition cancels and replaces the third edition published in 2022. It includes corrections of obvious errors and text improvements on the third edition in order to bring more clarity in the description of the assessment methods and avoid misinterpretations. This document primarily specifies a cyclic test procedure for ankle-foot devices and foot units of external lower limb prostheses, these differ in the potential to realistically simulate those loading conditions of the complete stance phase of walking from heel strike to toe-off which is relevant to the verification of performance requirements such as strength, durability and service life.
This potential is of particular importance for the assessment of the performance of a variety of recent designs of ankle-foot devices and foot units with specific characteristics that will only develop under realistic conditions of loading.
In addition, this document specifies a static test procedure for prosthetic ankle-foot devices and foot units, consisting of a static proof test and a static ultimate strength test, distinguished, besides other features (see NOTE), by the potential to generate heel and forefoot forces at lines of action conforming to those occurring at the instants of maximum heel and forefoot loading during the cyclic test.
These loading conditions are characterized by a loading profile determined by the resultant vector of the vertical and horizontal (A-P) ground reaction forces and by a locomotion profile determined by the tibia angle.
The test loading conditions specified in this document are characterized by standardized formats of these loading and locomotion profiles, applied by the cyclic and static test procedures to each sample of ankle-foot device or foot unit submitted for test.
This document specifies Test Ranges (R) by specifying locomotion profiles for the cyclic test in relation to the intended use. According to the concept of the tests of this document, each sample of ankle-foot device or foot unit submitted for test is, nevertheless, free to develop its individual performance under load.
This document is suitable for the assessment and testing of prosthetic ankle-foot devices and foot units with the strength requirements specified in 4.4 of ISO 22523:2006 (see NOTE). Prosthetic ankle-foot devices and foot units on the market, which have demonstrated their compliance with the strength requirements specified in 4.4 of ISO 22523:2006 through submission to the relevant tests of ISO 10328:2016, need not be retested to this document.
NOTE            The lines of action of the heel and forefoot forces generated by the static test procedure for Test Range 4 (R4) specified in this document approach those determining the sagittal plane loading of the test loading conditions I and II for the principal structural tests referring to ISO 10328:2016, without changing the values of the angles of the heel and forefoot platform(s) for the structural tests on ankle-foot devices and foot units specified in ISO 10328:2016.

SSEs are part of the fixed electrical installation.
This standard applies to SSEs for operation in:
- AC single or multiphase circuits with rated voltages not exceeding 440 V AC, frequencies of 50 Hz, 60 Hz or 50/60 Hz and rated currents not exceeding 125 A. They are intended to be used in installations with prospective short circuit current not exceeding 25 000 A, or
- DC circuits. SSE for DC circuits are under consideration (next edition).
SSEs may be operated:
- manually (M-SSE), or
- remotely (R-SSE), or
- automatically (A-SSE), or
- a combination of the above methods of operation, e.g. manual and remote.
SSEs are constructed either as Combined-SSEs (C-SSEs, based on dedicated products suc as circuit breakers, switches or contactors) or Non-Combined SSEs (NC-SSEs).
SSEs are intended for use in circuits where protection against electrical shock and over-current according to IEC 60364 is provided, unless the SSE already contains such protective function.
SSEs are normally installed by instructed persons (IEC 60050-195:1998, 195-04-02) or skilled persons (IEC 60050-195:1998, 195-04-01). SSEs are normally used by ordinary persons (IEC 60005-195:1998, 195-04-03) and do not require maintenance.
The requirements of this standard apply for standard environmental 420 conditions as given in clause 7. They are applicable to SSEs intended for use in an environment with pollution degree 2 and overvoltage categories III according to IEC 60664-1:2020. SSEs have at least a degree of protection IP 20 according to IEC 60529. Additional requirements may be necessary for devices used in locations having more severe environmental conditions.
SSEs do not, by their nature, provide an isolation function nor the overcurrent protection. However, isolation and overcurrent protection functions as covered by relevant product standards may be provided by Combined SSEs.
In some countries, it is not permitted to have synchronization of local sources with the grid for particular grid conditions, e.g. when fluctuations of the grid voltage or frequency are outside the tolerance limits.
This document does not apply to transfer switching equipment (TSE) intended to be used by skilled persons, as covered by IEC 60947-6-1:2021.

This document is not intended to specify acceptable levels of risk; however, examples of tolerable levels of risk are referenced.
